CFL's warmer than an HPS?

I'm currently using a 70 watt hps lamp (got it for free haha). Before i was given the

HPS, I was flowering my plant (only had one female) under a couple soft white 42 watt

CFL's. My grow box is roughly 4x3x3 with two 50 cfm fans for exhaust. Before the

HPS light was added the temperature in the room with 3 of the CFL's was about 93-95

degrees F. When I use just the HPS without the CFL's the temps in my room hover

around 80-82 degrees F. When I add the two CFL's with the HPS the temperature

reaches almost 95 again. I just think it's odd that the CFL's cause such a increase in

temperature. Does anyone have an opinion or knowedgle about this?

That is the problem when using grow boxes, If you had a larger space the heat would dissipate but using a box there is no where for the heat to go. Especially using multiple CFL's because the ballasts on the CFL's do produce a good amount of heat. By using just one small HPS the radiation of heat is reduced.

Are you using both of you fans for exhaust ??? You would have better cooling results with 1 for intake and the other for exhaust.

Possibly get another fan if you can. 1 intake 1 exhaust and one inside on the plant(s)

Yes. These two fans are located on the "ceiling" of the box. I have two intake holes on the bottom of the box, on opposite sides. I was thinking about taking one of my intake vents and connecting some A/C to it. My box is in my attic so its very close to an A/C unit... I dont see how a fan for intake would decrease the temperature because the negative pressure from the exhaust fans pulls in as much air as it possibly could. I also have two fans on the interior of the box circulating air throughout.

Trust me the intake fans would make at least a 5 degree difference and in a indoor grow that can be very substantial. However since you have your box in the attic your overall ambient temp is probably pretty high so if the air outside the box is not much cooler then inside then you will need to think about air conditioning or bringing more fresh air into the attic possibly both.

I'm probably going to introduce some a/c, should help. Plus i plan to soon upgrade to a 250 watt hps at which point ill use the a/c to air cool the lamp .

Sounds like a plan. Just one more question, If you have access to grow in the attic why are you using a box ?

Well the box fits like perfectly in my attic, not using the box would not allow any more vertical space. Although I know id have zero heat issues without the box because of horizontal space, but im forced to use a box for one main reason. I live with my parents still, both of whom are ok with me growing, in fact my dad smokes. I need to use the box because I have a little brother who can't know im growing, for obvious reasons haha. Plus I feel pest secure with an enclosed setup.
