First Grow [Plans]

I'm planning a grow in the very near future. Couple questions and a preliminary list.

Let me know what you guys think, criticisms welcome...

Soil closet grow. 10 Plants until sex, then only females (6?).


10 Nirvana White Widow seeds

600 watt HPS ballast
600 watt generic MH and HPS bulbs
Reflector (w/o glass and air)
Heavy duty timer
Mylar

Party cups (original potting)
5 gallon pots / bags (final potting)
Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil
Perlite + Vermiculite
Fox Farm Nutrients (organic or chemical)

Magnifying scope/lens/glass
Hemp string (for LST, scrog, drying string, etc.)
Fans


Questions:

White Widow strain - seems like everyone buys the cheap Nirvana seeds. Would it be worth it to buy Barneys/Dutch Passion/Green House?

I was originally gonna go with a 1000 watt HPS, but heat may become an issue in which ducting/inline fan/carbon scrubber may have to be purchased. Has anyone used a 1000 watt ballast? Would it become a problem in a 4' x 10' closet with approx. 4 box/floor fans?

Soil is going to be a mix of Fox Farm Ocean Forest + Perlite + Vermiculite. Does that sound good or should other ingredients be used for the mix?

I plan on using Fox Farm nutes. I'm stuck between the Organic trio (Big Bloom, Grow Big, Tiger Bloom) and Chemical tri-pack (Open Sesame, Beastie Bloomz, Cha Ching). Does anyone have experience with both of these? Which one should I go with?

Is a thermometer/hygrometer necessary? If anything is missing from the list please add to it.

you lucky bastard.
seams like your gonna get a nice setup from the get-go.
first- seeds....get greenhouse. I've heard many things about this company and there seeds being some of the best, and if not greenhouse try Soma Seeds version of white widow.
That company also has good rep.
600 is a good choice, even tho the most ive have is a 400w in a 2' deep, 3' wide, and 6' high closet.
600 shouldnt be a problem with heat if you have good ventalation.
You would probably not want to keep the ballast in the grow room,
that fucker will heat it up quick.

About the MH bulb, if your planning on getting a complete other ballast just for MH.
its just more money you dont need to waste.
If you get a MH conversion bulb...they work with Hps ballast as long as it is the same wattage.
its perfect unless you want 2 seperate rooms for veg and flower.

soil is good, especially the extra perlite if your starting off seedlings.
FoxFarm OF is to strong in organic nutrients for seedlings so they WILL have a rough time through veg if its the pure mix.

I have only used the organic set of nutes but they work great...never thought to much about the other set they have out there.


TRUST me
your gonna wanna know how humid and how hot it gets in there.
that is one of the main things you NEED to keep regulated.

word. thanks for the input. the MH bulb is planned to be a conversion bulb. i guess i'll pick up a therm/hygro.

what do u think about PH? ph meter, ph up, ph down?
