Fridge Setup Help

Hi, I'm new to growing and wanting to set up a fridge for a stealth grow. I want to use 4 2' fluoresents in the freezer part for mom and clones, and a 250 watt HPS in the fridge part for flowering. I want to do a scrog to try and makimize the space. I was plaing on venting the whole fridge out the back thru a scrubber but since the fridge will be hotter than the freezer due to the lighting I was thinking of running a length of pvc thru the fridge to bring fresh air into the freezer section as well from below the fridge. The other inlet air would come into the flower chamber thru pvc 90's on the bottom of the fridge, I want to build a box attached on the back to house the ballast's, power bars and timers. I made a couple sketch up pics quickly and will try to improve them later, if anyone can give me any advice I'd appreciate it alot, thanks

SOUNDS GOOD JUST BE VERY CARFULL WITH THE BOX ATACHED TO THE BACK FOR THE BALLAST AND THE POWER STRIPS ECT., I WOULD MAKE SURE IT IS ALSO COOLED BY FRESH AIR BECAUSE THOSE BALLAST WILL PRODUCE A LOT OF HEAT AND YOU HAVE TO WATCH YOUR POWER CORDS AND ALL ELSE FROM MELTING AND SHORTING OUT OR CUASING A FIRE[ IVE SEEN IT HAPPEN].............PEACE

Thanks for the interest

stoned budda, would it be better if i just mounted the ballasts etc on a board on the back without "walls" so that the heat might be able to dissapate more effectively? or should I mount an additional computer fan on it somehow to cool them?

It's was hard to draw in sketch up but i want the exhast from the flowering chamber to be sucked past the light, cooling it and vented straight out through the scrubber, thats what i have a length of pipe on the left side from the bottom to the freezer section, to supply fresh. Would one 2" pipe be enough or should I put one on each side? I was also thinking that if I only had one it should be on the right side so that the air will flow thru the plants.

thanks again, I appreaciate all help

peronally if i was doing it i would mount them on the back so as to disipate the heat and use clips to mount all the power cords so they wont come into contact with any ballast. you could even mount 2 vertical walls up th sides to hide everything if you know what i mean,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, by the way excellent use for an old fridge, im now thinking of finding one for my mommy plant in the bottom and clones on top.............peace

I know most are set on getting HPS/MH lights but have you thought about getting CFL's
I have 9 in a fridge and in actual watts I have 277w and its seems to be doing real well
and I only uses 0.15$ every 24 hrs / thats with 2 clone rooms and a mother room, all have fans that run 24/7 same as the lights and flower room with 2 fans and 277w

weekly is $1.05 monthly is $4.50 thats not bad for 3/4oz a week

also are you making it so the lights are adjustable or you will have to make the shelf for your pots move up and down , I did'nt think of this until it was to late ,so I thought I would ask??

I have mine in a old 40's fridge that I have had for 25yrs so most of my friends have seen it before and don't even ask whats inside! little do they know hahahah!!
I have 2L pop bottles as pots and I can fit 16 in the fridge at once without a issues but i have now just hollowed out the door adn now able to fit in another 3 more 19 in total

so depending how you are setting up you OP: pot size matters?

goodluck with the grow

cheers
Scooter

stoned budda, thats a good idea, I'll grab some clips to route the coords, and I think having to walls to conseal the back is an awsome idea too, just another degree of stealthyness.

bitter scooter, I hadn't seriously considered using cfls for flowering but you've gotten me more interested....ur averaging 3/4oz a week using cfl to flower?? I was planing on using the adjustable shelves to raise and lower the pots from the light, but if there is a reason to do it the other way am flexable on that. I was planning on flowering 2 plants using a scrog setup to try to maximize the space. Have you got any pics of your setup?

thanks for the help

its not much but here!!

http://forum.grasscity.com/photopost...ry.php?cat=985

if your doing it Scrog style then make your shelves sit in one spot until they get close to the light then move it down a bit dats cool!!
I have 2X4's on the out side for my newer growing ones and move them into the middle (more light is) as they get older!

I followed Dr G here: http://forum.grasscity.com/advanced-...-per-week.html
I'm doing this style of grow and seems to be working out great for me!!

so I now don't have to spend money buying crap weed!!

cheers

nice artist rendering of the fridge/freezer setup!

i like your idea. i also second the idea of using CFLs, they are cheap, super-efficient, and put off hardly any heat. i am using them for a second time now, and scrogging, and all is going very well at the moment. you can check out my grow if you want in my sig, it could be of some use if you want to try the cfl/scrog route.

good luck!

bitterscooter, I wouldn't cut yourself short, looks like a pretty sweet set up to me, thx for sharing, I think I'm gunna go with cfls, I've been reading about them since you suggested it earlier and it seems like a good way to go, especially cost wise since I'm just looking for personal use. I'm also sick of buying shitty herb for too much money. I was wondering how much weight you ended up with from ur plants in teh pics?

cupcheck, thanks I did them in googles sketch up, it's a pretty cool free program and didn't take to long to do, a bit clumbsy at first but ppl should definetly check it out. I looked briefly at the site for it and ppl are making university campuses, citys and landmarks in it and tiring it in with google earth I think, looks really cool. check it out at http://sketchup.google.com/

your plant looks like it's doing awsome!!! I like your setup too looks sweet. Good luck with flowering, I'll be keeping a eye on your thread.

I was wondering since if I use cfl's it would be cooler in the fridge section do you think I would be able to keep the plants raised on the shelf for the duration of flowering and use the space below to dry buds (obviously not an issue for first grow, but I want to keep a cycle going using the clones from the freezer switching them into the fridge section as soon as the previous plants are harvested). I was thinking that with a scrog setup to keep height down if I could salvage the space underneath somehow with an extra comp fan to control the smell from the drying aswell as grow with the one scrubber.

Thanks for all the help, the fast replies have been really appreciated

cheers

would a cfl setup like above be enough for flowering? I was thinking if not that it would be easy enough to adapt the design to get more bulbs. any ideas

thx

sorry I have been busy last few days!!
as far as weight of those two I have in my pics, the one(left) was 6g's and the 2'nd(right) was only 5g's both without stocks!! I did'nt grow those right at all !! I had been givin those plants from a friend and not until after I found that he had used time relese nuts in the soil and they were killing them with-in the 5-6week of flowering.
I do have one coming out this weekend( my fridge is not full yet do to sexing)
now that I have them all sexed and things are on track I will be getting 2-3 plants every week starting newyrs day!! for my first 2 and they should all be good for every week after that!! I have been going with my own mix of soil and natural nuts! they look bigger and better then the last few I took out of flower!! so I think I should yeild almost 8g's -10g's per plant but I might be only dreaming at worst 6g's per!!

I'm glad to think that I asked you about CFL's!! welcome to the club!! its a good feeling that I only spent for my whole OP has been 120$

I use the space under my plants for water, nutes and drying storage and it seems to work great I dryed my stuff in about 4-5 days , a PC fan would be good for them while the fridge is in night mode!! and use whatever fans you have set up for daytime to take the smell away!!

and to your last post !! HELL YA!!! those are sweet!!! I think I might have to go back to the drawing board with mine!! thanks for that link!!

keep us updated please!!
cheers

hey cupcheck I going to PM you tonight!! cheers

right on man, I can't wait to hear in the new year how it is goin, I like the setup alot, gettin bud weekly sounds dope. I'm making my way thru the Dr. G thread and learnin a lot, it goes on forever thx for the link.

I'm around finals right now so I haven't gotten much done but I'm hoping to get started over xmas.

thx for the info on the space below the plants, i think I'm going to try to do the same sort of thing, possibly nutes in one crisper and dryin in the other. I also want to try to use temp control with the comp fans to have them adjust for temperature fluxuations. I can't wait to get started.

I'll try to get soem revised drawins up soon, and imma try to put an 8 bulb version of the light from the above post during xmas. thanks again for all teh help, I'm glad i stumbled on this site, there is sooo much info.

cheers

OK here is little look at whats coming off in a week

click on it and when the new window opens click on the pic again!!

trichomes all over it !! they are just starting to go amber
and the top hairs(pistols) are red and pink lower ones are just turning orange , this was bag seed, and I still have the mom that I have cloned the crap out of!! I have 8 of these in different stages of flower this will be the first one to try out!!! can't wait , I want to pull it out ASAP I'm starting to jones a bit (I have had little to no MJ for over 3 months now)

I would say that this one will be 7g's dry maybe only 5-6 but no less!!
we think that this strain is BC god bud?? and I have White Rhino in flower also!!
looking to get some seeds from a buddy he said he has northernlights,
in the new yr I think I will order some blueberry and maybe some skunk for a outdoor grow.

and as for that post from DrG he's the best !! if you need any info from him just post your Q on the end of that thread and he will respond and he knows his stuff!! and is a great guy !!

like I said" keep us posted on you fridge!!"

cheers

that looks tasty man, what kind of rotation are you doin, a plant a week? So you have 8 or so plants flowering all the time? How is white rino, I was gunna get some northern lights, and onced that was up and runing look into other types. I sent Dr. G a msg so I'm sure I'll hear from him soon, thx again for the tip.

I haven't had time to revise the plans yet and this week is gunna be hectic with exams, but I'm gunna do up some profesional plans next weekend. Right now my plan is to use one crisper for supplies, and the otehr for drying (imma put a comp fan in it), I'm going to make an 8 bulb version of the light from the link above and I'm gunna use fluo tubes in the freezer for the mom and clones venting using comp fans with the general flow idea from in the first post. I'm going to try to use a computer temp control to regulate the temperature. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
