Clone question...stretch?

Hey gang,

Quick question if anyone has knowledge of this. Due to circumstances, a dedicated veg room is out of the question until next year. I grow 12/12 from seed only up until now.

I finally nailed a cloning method (wick style) that works for me with great (100% rooted 10 for 10) so now I have some clones of my NL from Nirvana and Hashberry from Mandala.

They were rooted under power compacts at 24/0 for 2 weeks.

I plopped them under the HPS now on 12/12 cycle as the PC veg area was not feasible long term...yet.

So, I'm used to the nice stretch you get with seeds from 12/12 where for the first 15-30 days they grow basically like vegging until the begin blooming.

My question is : will I still get that nice stretch with the clones under 12/12 ? Not looking to grow giants by any means, but some of the clones are only 2-3" and I'm just looking to gather more info.

Thanks, OGH

I'm not an expert, but I beleive that strech is related to the plants natural tendencies to want light meaning you dont have close enough lights causing the plant to put more into height than branches.

That sounds about right.

A gracious thanks to both you guys for the thoughts, I do appreciate it.

However, it seems I may have phrased it wrong as I'm not talking about "that" type of stretch.

I was concerned that, without being able to leave the clones in veg light for another month or so, would these girls still kick into a bit of a growth spurt as normal plants do while waiting to flower.

I'm finding it a bit tough to explain, so my apologies.

When growing 12/12 from seed, plants will grow like mad for about 3-4 weeks before genetically being ready to flower. Maybe that is called hybrid vigor...I'm not positive.

Now, with clones being rooted, but only 2-3", my concern was whether the two weeks of light at 24/0 "reset" so to speak their biological clock so they'll still have a growth spurt now that they are under 12/12?

Oh, and they're under dual 400's.

Maybe I'll just have to live and learn through this one.

Thanks again a ton for your ideas, wish I could explain better.

Peace - OGH

So are you saying that you took the clones from a mother who was flowering?

I think I get it

I think I know what your looking for. Your interested to see if clones will still see that final vegative growth spurt in the early flowering stages right? If thats the case then yes, they perform very similar to seedling, they just tend to grow bushier a bit.

If you still want that 'only top cola' feel to your clones, then just trim off the excess growing tips and leave one of your choice.....though I would recommend a bushy plant myself for obvious reasons

If I dont have it right, maybe just post the question by itself? All the outter jargon is confussing.

How much growth (new since they were cut)is on the clones?
Yes they will stretch different for each kind.
It has been my exp. that if a plant (clone) has 2-3" of new growth.....most will go to finish at 14-20"

Yes Big Milsy, that was what I was getting at, just couldn't figure out the right way to type it!

Thanks!

And thanks Dr. GB, they put on about an inch in the cloning process, so they may not get too big, which is fine, all about learning still at this stage. 8-12" of cola will be more than satisfactory for my first cloning try.

eleven357, yes, the clones were taken early in flower, at about 1.5 - 2 weeks in. They were taken from the bottom and have small little buds on top..nothing major.

Thanks all for the added peace of mind you gave me.

Grow safe - OGH
