Growing your mother first? Good idea?

Looking to grow quite a few plants - 10 Perhaps - Anyhow i was wondering if i should get the strain i want, and get my mother first then clone ?

Would it be best or bettter if i Had the mother Hydro or soil?

I understanf Flour's work for a mother plant, But what could i use for my mother to be in?

Looking to have a small box with some flours, i need an idea how to make this "Mother" box!

Thanks!

Have two seperate gardening areas. One for flowering and one for your mother and her clones. You could pick up a clone that you know is female, then grow it out to take cuttings to flower. Or, you could grow a set of seeds, sex them and then pick the strongest mother or 2 from that.

I started my plant from seed and then when I determined my plant to be female, I took cuttings from the main to make a mother.

I built this li'l box to vegetate my plants over the fall and winter when the outdoor light is not long enough. I live in zone 10, so the temps won't drop too low to hurt my garden so I intend to vegetate inside, then transfer the plants outside to flower.

Not too difficult at all. The hardest chore was twisting up the wire. 14 gauge gets mighty stiff.

The inside is lined with some sheathing called "R Max" it is foil on foam. The boxes are two rubbermaid storage containers. the light strips are those three-light bathroom fixtures. Ventilation is provided by a bathroom exhaust fan and topping it off is a 70 HPS security light that fits in the round hole in the top. the only tools I used were pliers, screwdriver and a swiss army knife.

Keeping the mother in soil is a very low maintenance approach to keeping a mom plant long term. I keep my mother in a 3 gallon planter full of a good soil mix under a few florescent lights. She is good for about a year. Hydro is a bit messy for me to keep a plant long term. All I do is water her twice a week and trim new growth.
