why is my plant so small!

I've had this plant in a cup for about 1 and 1/2 weeks, and it is still only 3/4" tall, and about 1/2" wide, with only the first set of true leaves, (along with the cotyledons.) each true leaf is about 1/4" long.

Ive been watering it about an ounce every day.

What type of growing medium.
Is it inside or outside.

I had runts too. I determined I was over watering, my growing medium sucked, I wasn't fertilizing enough and I had fungus gnats. It's amazing the number of things that can go wrong. I doubt I corrected them all

When I transplanted to Fox Farm Ocean Forest, cut way back on my watering, kept the fan going 24/7 and carefully fertilized - BAM! - big plants in a couple of days.

I'm growing in regular soil i found outside.
Its under one like 16w day light CFL, I will add more as it gets bigger.

It's inside in a PC grow box the thread is here, (i will be updating that thread, and this one with pics tomorrow, sorry I can't do it today I'm stuck at work.)

it looks to me like the soil is really dense.....u prolly need perlite and u definatly need more dirt....u dont have much room for roots to grow....y didnt u fill the cup all the way then plant the seed???it needs more light to....i would go get a 27 watt cfl or a 42 watt cfl then put that light on the seedling...it should start growing soon....

edit:did u poke holes in the bottom of the cup??? if not ur plants is getting flooded and that might be the reason it isnt growing....

Yeah, I poked holes in the bottom of the cup, and when I water it, It dosn't look so dry and caked like that, it looks more like mud. (well it should, I got it from outside!)

I'm thinking about transplanting into some miracle grow organic choice or whatever I can find at home depot, as this stunted growth is killing me! Also, I just looked, and theres a few tiny little bugs in the soil. Looks like tiny silverfish and little flies. No maggots or worms. Also, the stem (which was hard to photograph), is a dark reddish color near the leaves, and darkens the closer to the soil it gets. (so from the soil its a blackish-darkpurpley-reddish color, and near the leaves its a dark reddish color).

Also, I didn't fill the cup all the way because I was only planning on keeping it here until it was tall enough to go outside.
I actually like a lot of the ideas you suggested, and am planning on fixing the soil issue right away, (as it makes the most sense. if a plant spends all its energy trying to penetrate dense soil, it wont grow as much vertically. why didn't i think of that?!)

I figured the one light was enough for now, as I cant really get more than one aimed into the cup. But I can easily add more. (I'm not a cheap-ass with this stuff! )

Can't wait for my DWC!

hey man if ur havin problems with soil....there is no way u should try a DWC....its so much harder and unforgiving.....

im usuing MG organic choice and it was a horrible idea!!!!! fungus gnats love organic stuff!!!!!my 2 biggest plants arent the biggest anymore cuz the fungus gnats ate there roots up....now they are 1 week behind in flowering cuz the gnats stunted thier growth wen i swiched to flower....

yea, u figure there is enough light for now but there is NO problem with more light....if i was u(and u say u arent cheap) i would transplant into a full cup of dirt, i use supersoil. and go get 2 42 watt cfls.....the growth with triple atleast, cuz u have almost 7x as much light...the more light the better man, and that one little 15 watter or watever u got isnt enough....

OK, not a problem, I'll hook up some "Y" adapters and add some more lights while I wait for my 6900 lumen 105w (actual wattage) CFL. (Well It's not really that compact, its a big fricken spiral ) got it of fhttp://www.1000bulbs.com/products.ph...ct-Fluorescent

Ill make a trip to home depot and look for some soil and perlite, maybe a bigger pot too. (although I plan on transplanting outdoors. By august first, the lighting will be nearly 12/12)

she looks a tad bigger today, although her leaves got twisted from me moving the cup all around and her growing to correct. So should be straightened out in an hour or so, i'll take another pic then.

That soil looks like it has a lot of clay in it or something. Awfully dense. If the plants roots can't reach down into the soil it won't grow. That goes for any plant.

Anyone know where I can get new soil? Everything they sell at my local home depot has nutrients in it.

Any suggestions on perlite as well?

Im fairly certain that the soil is what is stunting my growth. Maybe if I just mixed my soil with 1/4" pebbles?

however, I see water drip out the bottom of my cup fairly quickly ( <10 seconds) when I water.

MG organic choice but there is bug larvae in it.
Either bake it to get the larvae out or use two table spoons of neem oil
in a 1 gal container to kill the bugs.
It works alright, two seedlings popped 3 days ago and they're a bit bigger than yours, hope that helps.

i agree, that "soil" looks like mud. it looks really dense, wet, and hard. get some plain ol potting soil and i bet she takes off. (hopefully, a she...)
