Hey guys can anyone tell me where I could find HPS lights? I don't really want to buy them online.. do any hardware stores carry them? Also, I guess I will need a ballast right?

I bought my HPS light on ebay and it worked out fine but your best bet is to find a grow store or nursery in your area, thats what i did for nutes and soil. I felt a little weird being 19 and walking into a grow shop with a list so i had my mom write it and played along like it was for her herbs during winter or something stupid. GL finding what you need

OR, you could check out using CFL's there are a couple really impressive guides on the GC forums and you can get CFL's in a variety of wattages from walmart, target, or any hardware store. a really great thing about CFL's is they screw right into a regular light socket and the really large wattage CFL's have a ballast contained in the plastic...thing...CFL's work great check em out!

go with htg supply.com ... they are discreet, they take a money order.

and the shipping is discreet, ive done business, there, and am pleased, and thier prices, are the best youll find!!! good luck

I second Chicken's motion. just got my HID lighting from HTGsupply, and it came in a discreet white box the UPS guy handed to me and said" have a nice day!" . great products at a great price! only thing I think is a little sketchy is they sent me a lighter???? WTF? oh well, I really could use a spare

HAHAHAHAHA hell yeah i was about to say that. lol theres a bottle opener on the end, too bad i went to a party that night and lost it.

I also like HTGSupply. But, the OP said she didn't want to order online. In that case you can get some HPS lighting at places like Home Depot, but it will be rigged as a security light and probably will be available only in lower wattages. And yes, you definitely need a ballast -- in fact, one of the problems with the HPS security lights is that they have the ballast built right onto the socket, which means the ballast is in your grow space, and a ballast gives off a lot of heat. A light made for growing will have a remote ballast so you can place it outside of your grow area to manage temps better.

If you want a more robust light locally then you will need to go to a hydro shop. Expect to pay more than you would online.
