Getting back to you

QUOTE

Hey, did you have the lights that far from the plant even when it was very small at the bottom of the unit? cause if so, then i will just rearange my setup and it will elimate the, "how am i going to suspend theese 3 4ft flouro tubes and keep the CFL's on the sides!!???" question. my setup is here, http://forum.grasscity.com/general-i...?highlight=CFL, and i hope you can see what i mean by how it could be easier. Get back at me ASAP. Thanks!

Nope, I had my youngn's raised up to the lights. Instead of raising lights, i lower plants.

You could do the same

Here's some diagrams

New setup, will incorperate the brightest CFL i have sometime tomorow most likeley.
What do you guys think now??Camera makes it look a lot less bright too so yeah. 3 30w Flourescent Tubes = 90 + 2 x 14w CFL's = 28 w = 108. The other bulb is ill just give it 80w so i have apprx. 188 w.

The CFL setup on the hanging one is probably temporary, until i get something like what TheCloset has in his Grow. Im using his same technique basicaly.

I have just started my first CFL grow, much like yours.

When I first began I was moving up the lights way too fast, causing the stem to grow way longer then it should have been, and some of the plants even had problems staying up after the first set of 3's were fully coming in.

I pulled those plants and have started my grow over, all of the stems are about a third of what my other plants where, keep them small and dense!

Lesson to learn: CFL's need to stay very close to the plant, the long CFL that I use is less then 2 CM away from the top of my plants with no burning at all and my 2 compact CFL's are about an inch (maybe a bit less).. but that's without the reflecter (currently rebuilding my setup to have enough room for the reflectors comfortably).

Good Luck!

Yay!!!!

Your grow looks 100x better and you've got a lot more light on it. You should be able to keep those tubes REALLY close. 100+ watts for a plant is going to make it worth your while. Once you flower, if you don't end up w/ an HPS, you can get 2 or 3 of those 2700k 42 watters at wal-mart and add them to your setup. Sorry for the harsh words earlier, I was a bit under the influence and probably should not have been typing...

OH and light reflection is huge....if nothing else, get a small sheet of plywood and paint it flat white (a couple of thick layers) and you can make a little light shield with some creativity. You're paying for those lumens so you might as well keep them on the plant.

Sadly, I dad didnt like the setup so we re did it. Ill post one last pic today and probly no more because I dad thinks your all governmentofficials tracking this to come arrest us. oh well, a grow is better then no grow. Ill just go ahead and explain the pic now. There are two of the CFL's In the white hanging thing, along with 1 15w FL Tube, The White fixture has 1 30w FL tube and there will be shelves that lower down on notches with the bright ass white one right next to the pot at all times. Also there is a CFL in that reflector, and when the plant gets tall enough to be centered under all the hung up lights, ill turn on the fixture with the two tubes in it. Over all i estimate to have 170-80 w. Heres pics. Also pics of soil ill be starting off in. Only added nutes to "give plants a great start" Enjoy, probly the last pics accept maybe a few sneek peeks here and there for you guys Shh!

Temps are adv. out at 80 w/o a fan. Tomorow we are going to get the wires setup nicer, with a bigger plug strip so all the lights can be plugged in and a fan. Also well be installing the shelve system. I dont really like that i wont be using the double tube flouro fixture but i think it will do fine, and then when it gets big enough to need more like and is lower and centered more ill turn her on. I hope you guys get how I setup will go!
EDIT: Plant will go pretty close to the reflector, with the bright ass white one right on the other side. I hope this works out, and its considerably brighter with the double turned on, but i dont have enough plugs right now to turn it on, so yeah. MAYBE ill sneak some photos of the permanent setup tomorow, but probly not...i dont like to go against I dad.

Got your PM, the setup looks good. I think you'll be happy with the outcome. Get ya a little fan to blow on the plant as it grows (once it pops and has a couple of leaves on it). The artificial wind will give it a strong stalk which you'll need to hold up the buds in flowering.

I understand your issues with posting....an online journal is photographic documentation of a felony in most states, be careful and tell NOBODY.

PM me if you need some help but I think you're well on your way...make sure your soil has absolutely no time released fertilizers, if it says it feeds up to 3 months, get something else. These plants are very delicate at the infant stage and you can burn them (I learned the hard way). Lots of patience and and a watchful eye will reap you a handsome product in a few months.

Toke on.
