Cool tube and ballast compatibility question

Forgive me in advance if this is a rather silly question.

I have a 400 watt hps/mh ballast that came with a hood already installed:

I was planning on changing my current hood/lamp with a cooltube. Here is an image of the cool tube:

The place I bought it from claims it will be incompatible and I will have to buy a new ballast. I am wondering if this is in fact, fact. Or if it is just a liability type thing. I figured i would be able to cut the wires from my current lamp and install it into the new cool tube. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE before I spend money I don't have to!

KEEP IT GREEN!

If they really said that, then they are lying sacks of shit and not worth your business.
Here is the same tube for $25 less at http://californiahydro.stores.yahoo....eflectors.html .
$59
Just unscrew your mogel and insert it into this cool-tube or unhook your wires and use the one it comes with. Their website kinda sucks, but I have bought all kinds of stuff from them (two cool-tubes and a ballast) and they are for real.

Hope that helps, R.

yea, you'll have to do some wiring, but they def ARE compatible. they just want you to buy a ballast off of them. rock on, brother.

Sounds like they just wanna make another sale to me...

A ballast is a ballast... maybe they're being shifty by putting a different plug on it that'll only fit in their ballast or something. Whatever they're on about... just use your old ballast, a lamp that you know is suitable for your ballast, and make sure it's wired correctly and grounded properly.
