MIRACLE GROW PRODUCTS....shocker

MIRACLE GROW PRODUCTS

The high Nitrogen content with this product is where the Mj growers have problems with these fertilizer's & soils (myself included years past) which caused me to convert to organic ferts.
The controversy over these products, on the MJ boards prompted my grow partner and I to begin conducting Miracle Grow products testing.

The results will suprise most of you,To my disbelief, I am a convert to Miracle-GroŽ Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food DURING THE VEGATATIVE PERIOD.

MIRACLE GROW FERTILIZERS:

Miracle-GroŽ Shake 'n FeedŽ Continuous Release Plant Food
(TIME RELEASED PELLETS)
FORGET IT YOUR PLANTS WILL DIE FROM STARVATION OR BURN

"Miracle-GroŽ Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food"
NPK = Fertilizer Analysis: 24-8-16 with micronutrients
(blue granular water soluable type)

This was the most interesting find!

It was found testing with 12 strains, the results were consistent, although there are some strains that the amounts of the ferts used varied as they seems less tollerant to high nitrogen content.
First time introduction to MG fert, each plant was watered after the MG Fert was added, to gentely acclimate the plants to the MG Fertilizer. The subsiquent feedings, the plants were watered first then the MG was added.

2 level teaspoons "LEVEL" to 1 gallon of water was the constant mix ratio. (color should look sky blue)

AMOUNTS OF THIS WATER SOLUABLE MIX TO USE
1 gal plants 1/4 cup OF THE LIQUID MG Fert mix
5 gal plants 1 cup OF THE LIQUID MG Fert mix

Given all things being equal, and the plants in healthy condition, The growth is unprecidented and will show within 8-24 hours
We recorded 1/2" - 1" a day growth & immediate improvement in the chlorphyll production which showed in the lush dark green leaves
The results will show in the tips of the plant first, both in the growth and darkening green.

It was also found that if improvement didnt show within 48 hrs, there was a problem with the plant (in need of transplanting, magnesium lockout or PH issues), and in each case when the issue was corrected and MG fert re-applied, improvement showed within 8-24 hrs.

Transversley it was found that if the plant seemed sensitive the the high nitrogen content of the MG Ferts, this definitely would show with in the 8-24 hr period. A slight blistering appearance on new growth leaves, twisting or curling of new growth leaves is an early indication of nitrogen burn and a quick flush prevented the plant from further signs of trouble and the growth would happily take off.
All plants showing signs of ANY NPK defeciencies were imediately corrected by the use of Miracle-GroŽ Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food

MIRACLE GROW SOILS:

Miracle Grow Potting Soil soil was tested with seedlings, young plants and mature females,it was found seedlings less than 3-5 weeks & unrooted clones couldn't handel the amount of nitrogen and showed burning consistently. young plants (less than 24") did well for 40 -60 days then slowly began to show nutrient defencies, mature females did well for 30 days or less before showing nutrient defencies. In both cases when the plants began to show the defencies a SUPPLEMENT FEEDING of the "Miracle-GroŽ Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food" was added & the plants responded immediately at an unprecidented rate

"Miracle Grow Potting Soil" (nutes added) has worked best for clones when the soil was reduced 50/50 with standard potting soil, it by far produced larger, healthier, faster growing clones, than did peat pucks, plain potting soil or full strength Miracle Grow Potting Soil

"Miracle Grow Moisture Control Soil" (nutes added) is fuckin dreadfull!!!, either your plants are too wet, or too dry...if you allow the soil to dry out "Miracle Grow Moisture Control Soil" actually repells water completely.............. BE AFRAID, VERY AFRAID

Those of you that know me, know I can diagnos a sick plant...so believe me when I say...
If your grows have been experiencing nutrient defencies, yellowing/slow growth, inferior yields and are tired of not correctly able to diagnos your problems, I suggest you learn to get comfortable using "Miracle-GroŽ Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food"
I CANT BELIEVE I JUST SAID THAT.........

i knew that it wasn't total shit, when used by experienced hands. i faired ok with it, but i do believe i was way way overferting. also, i have to say thanks ganja guerrilla, because i was thinkig about doing the exact same type of experiment and it turns out you saved me the trouble. although i still may and use MG on one plant and foxfarms on the other, both being clones of a healthy female from a future grow. + rep for thinking outside the box.

Ganj,
Very nice post indeed. I have tried miracle grow soil, and have had terrible experiences. On the other hand I have used MG All Purpose, as stated above, and have had no problems, except a bit of trouble keeping the soils ph in check. I'm not sure if its the fertilizer, or some other factor, I've yet to figure out, but I will be adjusting the amounts to what you have stated and see how my plants react. Once again thanks for the science experiment.......+REP.

Nice post, good experiment.

I've never dissed MG ferts per se, it's the whole time-released thing that doesn't work for young MJ plants.

Believe that is what everyone says but the MG lovers jump right on the bandwagon saying its BS and making it seem like we say its Totally BS which it is when it comes to using it 100% with seedlings and Cuttings.

Nice write up Ganja. I would have liked to see pictures of these plants throughout the trial. I have always said the MG water soluble ferts were probably ok but, that the soil were no good.

Did I screw up?

I did a flush last night and I mixed up the bloom booster MG ferts in 1 gallon of water. I had already flushed with 15 gallons, then poured the full 1 gallon ferted water in.

#1 - I know you don't like the bloom booster...should I flush again? (didn't remember you only liked the veg ferts)

#2 - when I do use water soluble ferts...do i pour the full "ferted" gallon of water in? or just a portion of it? So you mix 1/2 strength and then use 1/2 of the gallon or how should I be doing this?

Am I goign to come home to dead plants based upon what I did?

Very interesting findings, and reassuring since I'm using the exact same fert on my grow right now. You said "there are some strains that the amounts of the ferts used varied as they seems less tollerant to high nitrogen content". Did you test the strain Northern Lights by chance? Id be interested to know any findings using this fert because that's what I'm growing right now.

The real question is,

How much do you gotta flush those plants when you're ready to harvest, and how's the final taste?

Mg screams chemical and thats really why i avoid it. Organics..

I have a question for you all-

If I have plants that won't be ready til end of October and they are growing 1/2 inch to and inch a day in 5 gallon pots and look reasonably healthy, do I really need to fertilize before they start flowering? They are in good organic soil(Happy Frog). What I'm worried about with these is that these plants will outgrow the 5 gallon pots, which are about 2" shy of being full as it is.

At this rate they are going to be at least 5 feet before they start budding. It's a skunk strain and the leaves appear to be full on indica, definitely not skinny sativa leaves. Maybe they'll slow down, I don't know. But I thought true indicas stay short and these appear to be taking off growing 1/2 inch a day now.
