I only see 5.0 uvb lights on ebay right now. There are no 10.0 lights.

Here's a good deal. http://www.reptilesupply.com/product...roducts_id=423
I looked at my girl under the microscope today, and trichs are definitely denser. The buds look awesome, they're just covered.

Thanks for the link Kamel. You think the trichs are denser under the uvb's? Could it be that they just have more light in that area? Maybe it is the uvb. The test will be the potency.

true 200 Watt CFL growin 9 small plants

Hi I have a question, Im reading allot about 100w per plant.
Well I have one huge (over a foot long) CFL with an actuall 200w blue spectrum.
I have it in a closet with the measurements of 50 x 50 cm.. thats 1 3/4 ft x 1 3/4 foot.
Now my plants are 2 weeks old and about 6 inch. Is this enough light for the moment ?
Cause if I were to use 100 watts per plant man.. that would be 900 watts on a 50x50 cm.. i guess that would vaporize my plants...
My plants look healthy.. could be a bit more stout .. wish I could post a pic but i got a new laptop with Vista on it and the friggin useless vista wont support any drivers for my cam... grrrr...
Any advice would really be appreciated..

tom,

200 watts of CFL's for 9 plants would be fine for a very short period of time while they are small. Figure a bare minimum of 30 watts per square foot when flowering. A better number would be 50 watts per square foot in flower. If you add up your square footage it turns out that 200 watts would be enough on paper. However, 9 adult females will be well under lit with only 200 watts.

420grower, If the cfl bulb looks red, it is proabably 2700k-3500k or so.

Can't go wrong with the hps 600 unless it burns them up. Why would you even consider going back from 600 hps to CFL's? Heat a problem in there? HPS will kill CFL's hands down watt for watt.

In Australia we mostly use 14000k compact fluro's for the vegative cycle

we mostly use HID but i mean in the compact fluro range

What a great post, my own questions

Totally awesome thread kamel!

I'm growing in a hollowed out wall unit. My dimensions are 1 1/3 ft deep x 2 ft wide x 4 feet tall----- 10.5 feet cubed 2 2/3 ft squared

i have two plants about 1.5 ft tall who are just beginning to flower.

With the low depth you can imagine that the plants are spread out width wise. (side by side) I'm using two 48" t12 40 watt sylvania gro lux tubes to provide light to the lower parts of the plant. They provide 1900 lumens each for a combined output of 3800 lumens of wide spectrum light.
Total - 80w 3800 lumens

However, only one plant can benefit from the tubes at once as it is arranged on the left side of the horizontal array with a plant in the center and on the right. For this reason the two plants switch places every day and are each rotated 180 degrees midway through the day.

above the plants I have two 14 w warm cfls, one 26w warm cfl and one 45w warm cfl
total 99w 6200 lumens

Total Total
169w fluorexcent light @10 000 lumens

is this 1 000 lumens/ cubic feet enough (5 000 lumens per square feet)

Im thinking of scrapping the two 14's, buying three new 26's, and moving the 45 w down to inbetween the bases of the two plants. This would mean that I'd have the 80w 3800 lumens of the tubes along the side, 45w and 2900 lumens at the bottom, and 104 w with 6800 lumens on top

that would give me a total of 229 watts and 13 500 lumens

That would surely be better, yes?

Should I replace the T12's with T5's? Are they readily available? Do I need to change ballasts? Do they come in 48"?
What are your thoughts?

Do you have any conclusive results for if 2700 k are better than 6500k for flowering yet?

at some point in this thread someone asked how to check the color temp of a light bulb. may i suggest using the White Balance feature on a digital camera? all cameras have it, but the more advanced ones like SLR would have a more direct way to set it. i will post some pictures and details on this tomorrow as it is pretty late now
