Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

do you use 6500's in all ten lights to veg and then switch out to all 2700's for flower? i am going to buy 100w 6500's and 2700's. would 10 work for 6 plants? i am going to try some aurora and super silver for my first grow in 15 years and wanted to grow 3 girls of each. I am going to try SOG. was going with what i used to do back in the day(flood and drain), but i like this bubble bucket idea too. i am open to soil mixtures too. any suggestions? i really want to go with a tried and true newer method but i am sure about CFL's because of my budget.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

I use mixture of wavelengths such as 4-6500k, 4-55ook, and 4 2700k, all 100w equil. or 26-27 actual watts. Also added a 68w 2700k and a 42 w 2700k. I have 4 plants. Get some splitters for them too. I use the b.b.hydro method also. You can make your own with some air tubing and air pump. Just check out the threads on bubble bucket method and kamels cfl guide, they will show you how.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

Started with 10 and added more as plants needed light from sides to get to lower branches. I have a bathroom light fixture that has 6 sockets and using splitters in each socket. So thats 2 in each socket multiplied by 6 equals 12 plus 1- 68w and 1 - 42 w. You will have to arrange the lights to accomodate the plants. Also I have a homeade reflector for top of fixture to angle light down to plants. Like I said its working very well. With the cfl's u want to use the sides of the bulbs towards the plant to get the most light from them. Just check out some of the cfl indoor grow journals on here and u will see all kinds of techniques using the cfl's.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

I'm not a newbie by far (former Overgrow member), but this is my first indoor grow. What I was wondering is how are you guys setting up all those lights to the timer? Would the $4 pin style timer I bought at Big Lots work (still haven't figured out how to use the damn thing, didn't have instructions). If those timers are crap, where can I get a decent timer for a reasonable price that will work? I want to run 10-12 Cfl's over 6-8 plants. What light setup would some of you recommend? I don't mean the actual lights or wattage to use, I'm talking about ways of connecting the various lights to a timer.

Any help would be much appreciated..

I used two power strips with 18 bulbs in them and connected the two plugs from the strips into an adapter with multiple empty sockets and connect that to my timer.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

I use a bathroom light fixture that would usually be above a mirror, kinda like a vanity light,. It has 6 sockets and where it hooks in the wall I wired my own cord with plug. The 6 sockets have splitters so there a total of 12 bulbs. So I only have one plug for these 12 bulbs which goes to a timer. The timer is from Walmart I think, nothing special, about $10.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

Thanks for the info KillaKush and Petho1. I think my timer might be similiar to the walmart brand, but how do you work the thing. It has a bunch of pins I guess you can push up or down and a switch at the side with a little timer stamp on it. Mine didn't have any instructions with it.

I wonder if your timer is like mine, are the pins red and green? The green pin represents when the light comes on and the red is when the light goes off. All you do is pull the pins out and place then on the time that you want, then set the clock on the timer to your current time and your done.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

Thanks KillaKush for the info. I found a similiar instruction manual when I did that google search. I have to test it to see if it'll work cause it wasn't the exact same brand. The instructions you gave is close though, so they might all work off the same principles. Mine doesn't have any color to it, real simple looking. General Electric General Purpose 15A Timer. I believe it looks like yours but without the red and green dials, if you have what I'm thinking of.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

I made a seperate thread and someone sent me here..

here's my thread:

Setting up a grow box

The grow box will be about 2' x 2' and about 5 ft high. Is this enough room? I plan on having one plant, and doing sea of green once I get a good mother plant. I will have 2 CFL's on clamp fixtures for the sides, and one CFL up at the top. What wattage should I get? I'm thinking I can go fairly low wattage since i'm having 3 lights on one plant.. but i'm willing to have high wattage if it will help.

As far as exhaust - will a 120mm PC fan work? I need something silent. How would I convert a PC fan to AC so I can plug it into the wall?

What species/seed is good for this box? I guess a very wide plant would be kind of difficult, because it will start touching the lights on the sides.

You can tell I LST'd both these plants. LST, low stress training, is the best way to get the most out of fluorescent lighting. It is simply tying the branches down into a bush. I highly recommend doing this to your plant. Check the Absolute Beginners forum for a sticky on the subject.

LOl it looks like you just stuck a plant pot in your living room and grew it under the ceiling fan.If only it was that simple.
