Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

You should find CFL bulbs at your local Home Depot, Wal Mart or Lowes, as well as your local hardware store. Just remember, the bigger the stores such as Lowes or Home Depot, the better chance of a better selection.

The Make your own lamp kits are also in the same stores. You have to put togeter the cord and socket, but it's not hard at all. You only need a screwdriver. You may also choose to buy the already assembled lights, such as a work light that is corded already. All you have to do is take the cage that protects the buib off. This route is more expensive though.

Make your own lamp kit = $3-7$

Pre-made work light = $7 - $10

The make your own lamp kits are also my favorite choice because on the work light the plastic handle is just a lil too big for my setup. The Make your own lamp has just cord and socket making for more room to work with in my small closet space.

DONT FORGET THE V-SPLITTERS SO YOU CAN PUT UP TO FOUR BULBS ON ONE SOCKET!!!

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

ok guys i am having a heat issue in my box. i have 2 cfl and a 70w hps light. how many cfls would i need to replace the 70w hps light? i have the 2 sfls and the 70w hps on the top of the plants. thinking of having 4 cfls in the top of the box and then 2-3 in the corners with screen covering them about 1" away from the light to keep the plants from touching them. how does this sound?

should i go with the 42w or just keep with the 23w-26w?

again im having temp issues so im unsure of how much more heat i will have with the 42w cfls. the temp outside my box may approach 80* and the inside has hit 99* before.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

Hey man just want to say thanks for this guide has helped me out alot.
Havnt had alot of cash lately and really wanted to make my plant flower since its winter where i live atm and we just arnt getting 12 hours of sunlight.
I just got 2 26W cfls left the plant in the sunlight as long as possible then chuck under the cfls for the rest of the 12 hours. Worked a charm and my plant is now nearly 2 weeks into budding and is doing very well.

Good thing is this week im getting more stuff to grow up to 6 plants at once. getting 2 shade setups with 130W cfl bulbs which will be lighting the tops of the plants and will have many smaller cfl lamps around the sides of the plant will try and have at least 1 26W lamp per plant.also getting a small fan all in a small closet space.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

i currently have (4x 26w daylight) (4x30w daylight) and (6x26w 27k) bulbs. i'm only growing one plant but i was wondering if i could implement the 27k bulbs during the vegetative state (so i would run all 14 bulbs for the whole grow till harvest)? once i swich the lights to 12/12 i was gonna swap out 6 of the daylight bulbs for the 27k ones (2x daylight and 6x27k). any opinion? i dont want to buy more bulbs because im fairly positive what i have will be enough but more is better right?

thank you

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

im still new to growing and am still learning a lot but from what i have read if you are able to turn them on i would. it will complete the spectrum and will improve plant growth. i mean it isnt going to hurt them. as long as heat isnt an issue i would go for it man.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

I have a question and if this has been answered I give my humblest apologies, so here it is... Using sixteen 32 watt cfl's I would have a lumen output of 35200 using only 512 watts, granting that what I've read is right saying a 32 watt cfl gives out 2200 lumen's. Now four 150 watt cfl's, granting what I've read is right saying a 150 cfl gives out 8000 lumen's, has a lumen output of 32000 using 600 watts! So would their be any advantage to going the four 150 watt route. From what I've gathered lumen output is the only thing that matters (other then the light spectrum of course). So would the sixteen 32 watt cfl's not be the way to go for me. Also it seems you would have a more abundant spread of light using the sixteen 32 watts. I assume that using more lights I would be pulling more amps and I don't like fires so I would take care of that issue.

Cfl stands for compact fluorescent light. When you use a fluorescent light you have to have a ballast. That is what the base is that the long fluorescent tube lights are in. Cfl's are self ballasted, that is why they are called compact and can be screwed right on in to an existing light fixture, most of the time.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

I have just looked at the hps lighting and though this seems to not be an appropriate thread I will still ask, growers such as the ones on grasscity seem to be schooled in all aspects of the herb! (pardon my pandering ) Looking up the hps lights I could buy two 200 watt lights that give out 44000 lumen's at only 400 watts! Now this sounds great, I've found that people say hps give denser, more compact buds. Though I've also found that people say they get hot as balls in hell. So if I had a room that was 12w x 8h x 4d how much ventilation would be needed, would it be practical or should I just use the sixteen 32 watt cfl route? I'm in South Carolina and the summers get pretty hot, usually 90-100.

use them all man. the yellow light will help the plants stay compact and bushy, what we all want. In vegetative growth, I use bulbs of 6500k mostly, then add in 1/3 2700k and a couple of 5500k lights as well. What you will see happen is the plant grow nodes every cm or two. This is key so your flowers will connect on the branches and you can have one long, donkey dick bud!! hope this answers your question, let me know if this happens for you... laters

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

I added into my system today, which currently has 850 watts, another 210 watts of 2700K (68 watters) making for a new total of 1060 actual watts of CFLs. Oh there is a total of 13 plants still going (sexes unknown yet) in the 5x1.8x6 ft closet space.

I will wait till after flower for two more weeks and post another video. It was hard making that video on Nero Vision, not looking forward to it again.... blah!!!

Anyways guys an gals, please post and let me know what u think of my progress so far. It will be much appreciated.

Re: Kamel's CFL Guide

why is the equivalent wattage disregarded with cfls? Its used to equate it to incandescent in light output is it not or are the lumen values different?
