To answer the above question, I believe that a blue light spectrum would be best for veg and a red would be best for flowering, but obviously the intensity of the light is more of an issue.

To start a new question to the CFL growers, I found out my friend who I was selling the seedlings for an outside grow fell through, and as I have no outdoor spot but a great place indoors, I have decided to grow a single plant LST style. My seedling is now at one week, and I was hoping to take it all the way through flowering. I set up a growbox, painted white, with a 10 inch pot. I have space for 3 lights, and was going to use those spaces for 3 27w 6800k bulbs through veg and then use 3 30w 2700k bulbs in flowering. Do I need more juice? Or perhaps could i do it with the light w/o the LST. all three lights have circular reflectors, although I've heard these are not very helpful. Pics to be added by edit.

For one LSTd plant, you should be fine. The reflectors do help, but I guess if you're working in a box painted white inside they aren't necessary, and might help the air flow if they were absent.

Happy everyone still likes the guide, and that Vtec is here to answer all the questions.

Hi all! I am new to GC, and am going to be using CFLs for my first grow.

Is there a point when there is too much light? (I could understand too many lights = too much heat, but that won't be a problem). I bought a case (12) philips 27w 6500k cfls. Would it be excessive to use all of them for 4 plants? I bought 4 10" clampon type reflectors too for each one.

Any advice/comments on trying this?

You know it Kamel, always like answering questions.

Hey Brad welcome to the city. Like you said, the only time there is too much light is if it gets too hot in there. Get as many CFL's in there as you can.

Just wanted to say this guide is awesome. Thank you for putting it together, its really the best guide that i've come across. I will be starting my closet cfl grow within a day or two (however long these seeds take) and its given me a lot of info. Gonna try a small grow, 2 plants with a little bondage under 3x27watt bulbs. I'm hoping for the best but mostly i'm trying to learn by doing.

wiggely, keeping them in the 6 inch pots is important because it will keep them, small. This is necessary because 4 bulbs leaves only one bulb per plant which, when dealing with CFL’s, leaves the bottom of large plants and, the far side, dim with light. However, in your case, it will probably yield some smoke able bud. Don't expect to break any weight records. In fact, best not even bother weighing it, just smoke it up. Oh, you will also most likely have to rotate the plants multiple times per day to eliminate reaching but, it can work.

Thanks for the info

I'm hoping I'll be good for veg. I'm also hopping that I'll get two ladies, and I will (planned I would love more) buy 4 more 42 watt 2800 lums 2700k bulbs for flowering. so hopefully I'll end up with two plants in 10 inch pots under 8 bulbs for a total of 22,400 lums for two plants.

What do you think of that? 4 for 4 plants during veg, 8 for 2 plants during flowering?

Hopefully I can find a digital camera to borrow to take some picks of my set up (small) that should be completely set up by the end of the weekend.

I think it would work since it does say cfl but, the flood type cfl's and hid's for that matter are not the best for growing. Maybe someone who has actually used those can tell you more for sure.

I was at target and I noticed they have some really cheap 8" desklamps that I could use for some side lighting. I was reading the package and I noticed the bulb is rated 7000k. Not overkill is it?

Also... Is home depot the only place that i'm gonna find weather striping? I cant find it anywhere and I freakin hate that place sometimes.
