I'm growing under plain parallel 8 foot long fluorescents. would this be a problem as opposed to cfls?

Nope more or less the same thing but with 8 ft you get lots more plants under them than just a regular 27 watt squiggly CFL.

300 watts

I am pretty new to growing but have done plenty of research and i am really into stealthy CFL grow cabs. i have three CFL's in a wooden nightstand grobox including a large 300 watt Cfl that puts out 3900 lumens. it only cost ten bucks for the bulb at lowes. i have a decent exaust fan which keeps the heat manageable in there but i am kind of concerned about running a 300 watt bulb (plus two other small cfl's on a y-splitter) inside such a small area. you guys think i am straight to run those kind of lights in there?

dimensins

i am not positive of the exact dimensions but i would guess about 2 x 1 x 2 it has a drawer on top and a few sqare feet of space underneath. what i did was pull the drawer out and mount the cfl's in it then flip it upside down and put it back in the night stand. a have no intake currently but for exaust i took a fan about the size of two pc fans out of some kind a stereo equipment (found in basement) and have it in the middle of the back wall of the cab. i dont have anything growing in there yet but left it on over nite and the temp seemed straight. (i just have not heard any one using a cfl over 100 watts... ill post pics soon)

so when you say 100W CFL you are talking about the incandescent equivelence? If not, i cant seem to find 100W CFL's.

go to 1000bulbs.com they sell cfls up to 200watt (not the incandescent equivalent)

montaze i used 2 85watt cfls in a pretty small area, i say like 2ftx2ftx9ft, and they got pretty hot but then again i had no exaust just a fan, with an exaust u should be alrite, but do some temp tests see how hot it is in there with lights on and lights off before u put ure plants in so u dont have any problems during the grow .

yeah i added a little pc fan for intake, the and have put my lil lst george bush in there it seems to be doing fine in its first week out of the pc box and once i get around to gettting a timer w/ a grounding hole i will give it 24 hrs dark then launch into flower mode. the temp seems cool enough but i think i need a lot more lumens. i am looking into low wattage hps lightas for it like the ones you see in parking garages. (and no it is not equivelent to a 300 incandesnt it just a big ass cfl i guess)

Where do you buy light mounts? I have no problem actually buying the bulbs but i cant find the mounts for cfl's or brands for them.

100w cfl

Hey guys, been loving this post. Alot of killer info. Here is my question Im checking out this 100w Fluorex 100w bulb 6500k. Its pretty tight but its made to fit in a big ass box where the ballest is. Its one of those over sized ones that wont fit in a regular size lamp socket. Im looking to hang the buld without a box or metel reflecor. I want to put it in between a few plants.

Im looking for a easy way to do it without wireing up a electronic ballest. Maybe a adapter or something is what im hopeing for. Any ideas?
