hmm, didn't know not to use nutes for a couple weeks. Should i flush the tank and just put water in or let it ride on out with the nutes already in there? I did put in 50% of the lucas formula so there aren't that many nutes in there.

mjboy, read the first 15 or so posts in this thread. I think a few people did a cost study on my buckets and we all talked about it in length. The Hydrofarm units cost less and are ready to go (no tools needed). My buckets have a few extra features. I feel they make less work for the grower. Best to hear from others on this subject though.

I read the first several pages but not all of them so Im sorry if this was already asked.

Will i need a reservoir, or can i just fill directly into the bucket?

and if i do need one, could you direct me as to how to connect it to the bb? and how to refill the solution?

no res is needed. buckets can be filled through the netpot.
build a res step 1. acquire a pond pump, the bigger the better.
step 2. acquire a res, be it a bucket or a rubbermaid container.
step 3. fill res with water, submerge pond pump, and pump water into bucket through tubing into the net pot or into a special fitting above the waterline. tada. theres a few ways to go about this so keep looking.

Ok, just got done reading through the whole post. THE most informative forum post on growing I've read online. I understand most of this setup, but I'm confused with adding/mixing.

1. When pumping water from the reservoir to one of the grow buckets (to add water/adjust pH) will these buckets attain equal level? Or will the grow bucket overflow?

2. You said you mix the solution in the buckets w/ the reservoir before checking pH right? How do you mix buckets? During mixing will the buckets maintain equal level?

3. Also to be sure, the reservoir bucket has two drain valves right? One to stay connected to all the buckets in the series, and one to mix/add solution.

Rumple..how far do you keep your 400 Watt HID from your plants? How long before you see any growth?

I'm glad you fixed your leaks, I knew you would.

I keep the center of my bulb 18" from the tops as much as possible. Just do your best to do this even if it's not always possible.

If you hook them all together at the base and open the valves, they will all find the same level. To mix, I fill the right one till it almost overflows (my pump works faster then it can adjust). Then I fill the left one. I go back and forth a few times like this and it all gets mixed real nice. I hook my pump to the center bucket drain valve. So my center bucket has two valves at the base. My set-up is only one of a hundred correct ways of doing this.
