Hey Rump, next round of questoins.

1. What do you PH your water too?
2. Do you find the PH goes up or down as the plants consume?
3. What is the highest and lowest you would allow your Ph to get too, and.. how long do you think it takes the plants to get to those ranges.

Thanks again Bud.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

I would like to keep my PH between 5.7 and 6.2. My results will not be the same as others. A lot of things make the PH shift.

It does not change much during veg for me. As the days go by during flowering, the PH starts to drop more and more daily. It means my nutrient tends to be a bit strong later on in flowering. But I get no burn so I just add PH up and keep my mixture the same strength.
I have never used my PH down.

Rump: Do you still use two 1'' air stones? Have you experimented with any other air stones? Just probing... 1 of my 3 buckets is using the 2 1'' air stone method and the other two just have 6'' air stones that weight themselves down in there... this should be fine right?

Also the 1'' stones I have are "sand air stones"... think they'll make it through the harvest?

I think I have gone through every kind of stone. I just use two 3" disks. Use what ever you have, just make sure you have lots of air flow.

Ever tried any of those ceramic and/or micro-pore air stones?

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Well... I'm done reading this thread...

It took me the better part of a four-day weekend... the rest of my bag... and a few Advil... but, I made it!!!

MOST IMPORTANT: Rumpleforeskin ROCKS like freakin' Gibraltar for posting this thread! Nuff said there. I've only been on GC a short time... and have already wanted to +rep a few peeps for their efforts here... but I didn't.. until now!

+REP FOR RFS!!!

A few bucket related (not nutrients, lighting, screen, etc) observations:

  • Read the ENTIRE 91-pages... THEN ask anything that wasn't already asked (if you can find something that hasn't been mentioned already). If you're too lazy to read the entire thread.. don't ask! It's redundant... and the answers are already there. Others have read the entire thread (including me)... you can too!
  • YES! This is done with NO SOIL! It's called Hydroponics. If that alone confuses you... READ MORE!!!
  • NO! You don't just, "Drop the seed in the bucket or something"... you must germinate the seed and get it to root BEFORE putting into the mesh pot to grow... again, READ!!!
  • Parts will run $50-60 US per set-up...
  • Any colored bucket will work; however, a dark/black bucket will only help with light-proofing...
  • Air-pumps should be at least dual-port (a quad-port would do two buckets)... and should support a 50-gallon tank or larger...
  • Mesh pot size doesn't really matter (within reason).
  • The original design has changed, in that the use of grommets has been dropped in favor of O-rings... the sight-port fittings have been changed, and hose-clamps have been added...
  • You can either make a single stand-alone bucket, or you can connect multiple buckets in a series. One bucket may also be used as a testing/filling port...
  • Drain leaks can be corrected by using fine-grit sandpaper to clean the inside and outside surfaces of the bucket as-well-as the hole itself. ALSO, make sure to SNUG the O-rings until they're tight... DO NOT over tighten, double the O-rings, or glob it with goo... just fix it!
  • The buckets each hold 3.5 gallons of nutrients solution...
  • The water line is 1" ABOVE the bottom of the basket when starting out with fresh seedlings, then 1" BELOW the basket once the roots drop below the basket...
  • The air-pump is left on 24/7
  • Vegetative grow times, flowering times, yields, any MANY other variables are STRAIN DEPENDENT. There is no one answer...
  • Did I already mention that Rump is the man?

I'm sure there are a few points I've missed... so, I'll re-post and/or edit later..

BTW... Rump CAN'T go back and edit the initial (page one) posting... editing is cut off after 30-days...

Thanks again, Brother! Gonna get a BB off and running with a Bag-seed test after my current soil-planting is harvested...

PEACE!

Your Brother,

Andrew420

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Thanks for the cliff's notes Andrew! It's such a shame that some of these threads get INTIMIDATINGLY long because people keep asking the same question. The info is there for those with the determination to find it.

One thing I would do... SWITCH from the noob page settings. Instead of 15, I see 40 posts per page, and this thread is just barely 35 pages now. Still quite a read, but a lot less clicking!

Andrew, nice clif-notes/newb README. If only everyone would read this whole thing before posting.

This isn't exactly true. I've used a pump with a single port thats made for a 5-20 gallon tank with one 6 inch airstone very successfully. Don't think you require a dual port pump for the bubble buckets, and 50 gallon tank pump for 1 bubble bucket is a bit overkill (even tho I'm hesitant to say overkill, because as far as I'm concerned the more air the better, but a 5-20 gallon tank pump works just fine)

Peace brother

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Andrew420... You have a photographic memory or what? That was amazing!

If someone wants to know more they can read on, but I feel for the folks who see 1300 posts and don't want to sit and read all day. I don't mind answering the same questions.

Some of the stuff has changed over the past two and a half years. GC has allowed me to make changes to the first page any time I want, but I am kinda lazy to take them up on it. I will get around to it and when I do, I will add Andrew420's notes to the update.

I could not have come close to making that list of repeat questions. You will get back your investment ten fold. You know more then the average bear about DWC growing now.
