Wondering about DWC

Hey RFS,
In your opinion is this DWC buckets the easiest method. I have setup my current room with bins and sprinkler setup but these buckets of yours I really like and they are awesome for non square rooms with odd shapes. I do have a couple buckets set up but here is the bulk of the room.

DWC is not the easiest method. Soil was much easier and took less of my time.

How about some advice Rumple

So I realize what your saying. Time is more consumed but these days at my age ,I like it. What is your opinion of my buckets.......ie will they work. I see by your pics that you have done well for yourself.
I would like your advice on ferts and quatity. I have a water softener that uses salt but I am worried about it. My PH is perfect out of the softener. My concern is the salt. Any experience with this. Years ago when I got busted I had a standard ebb and flow setup. I had tremendous problems with my water there. If I setup a RO unit it will clog quickly from the salt. I cannot find a place to bypass the softener or turn it off. The assholes hook it right next to my water meter so I use softened water even washing my car or watering my lawn. The next time they stop in I'm getting them to change it.

Thanks for any advice.....what do you use

Your system looks like an areoponic setup to me. I have never tried that type of grow. I hear they work great but the maintenance is constant.

I use the Lucas Formula for feeding. Real simple and cheap.

Your water problem is over my head. Would be a great post in the forum. I use a RO system that I got off Ebay for $100.

Thanks for the comments, R.

Thats a lot of typing my friend. I use a 400W cool tube, CO2 tanks, and feed using the Lucas Formula. Every grow seems to teach me something and results get better. Start basic and make improvements as you go. Don't spend alot of money if you don't have it. Some seeds, soil and a cheap HPS lamp can give great results.

Reading the forums here is your best tool. Don't limit yourself to one growers opinion.

One tip I give new growers is to keep it neet. Neet and clean grows will give you pride in your space, keep the mold to a min, and will reduce safety issues.

R.

Dont seed into the bucket. The clay pebbles dont hold enough water for a seed or a sprout. An easy way is to grow your seeds in rock-wool until roots show then put it in the bucket with the water level touching the bottom of the basket. They have a million other ways of doing this.

Hope that helps, R.

Awesome post man. I am definitely going to be switching to hydro once this first soil grow is finished!

Question though, so once I get one of these buckets setup, that is all I need? Am I correct in that the bucket is the actual reservoir? I have seen people using those big rubber-maid bins, is that for a different method?

The rubber-maid bins are the same type. They allow more plants in a tight space.

Just fill them up and keep the nutrient level about an inch below the basket. No need for any other tanks and stuff. You can add on if it suits your grow.

You will need grow supplies and nutrient meters that are not listed here.

Best of luck, R.

Day 20 of 12/12***** I planted this grow on Newyears Day.
