Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Rumple, or anyone who is using this system. Heres a question I know we havn't come across (at least in a while). Can you describe how exactly your res system works and how you change it? I.E. what pumps/flows the water from a res to a bucket? are the pumps always on or do the airstones do all the work? Is gravity playing any type of role? How often are the bucket clean?

On a second note, how many plants can I fit under a 400 watt hps/mh? 4 or 6? Space is variable at the moment between 2x2, all the way up to 4x5.

and lastly, is your carbon filter before or after your inline fan?

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

I dont have a carbon filter. I use Ozone. I understand it can be done before or after the fan (does not matter).

Any small pond pump can assist in draining and filling your system. I have used a $15 Via Aqua pond pump for years. I just switch to a high-end pump that works a little better, but I would not recommend spending all that on a pump. I only use the water pump when draining and mixing nutrient. The rest of the time it stays off.

The air pump has to stay on all the time.

I clean the buckets after every harvest.

I like the 100W per plant rule. You can grow more plants then that but you will just yeild less.

Good luck, R.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Hey quick question Rumple. I'm sure it's somewhere in this thread too I just don't have time to go through the 53 pages for it ha... But for a 5 gallon bucket what would be the recommended air pump capacity? I've got one rated for 50 gallons at the moment but I'm not even sure if that's actually relevant here...

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

I don't have a great answer for that one. Make sure it's a twin outlet. I find the 50 gallon and up work best. The more air the better is my feeling, although I can't prove it.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

This is by far the best step by step on this forum, great job. I have a question though, I have some little babes vegging in a stealth cabinet and I really think I want to try out the DWC. Do you think I could convert the plants I have in potting mix to buckets? Also I have seen a few different bubble setups with 2 or 4 or more buckets linked together. How would you go about doing this, and I have one more question. Its more like a comment but I have never used a hydro setup, so I don't really no all the ins and outs of what you need. Do you have to have a resevoir full of water to make this system work correctly because I am in very limited space and as I am growing in my mothers house I can't have a huge tub full of water hangin out in my bedroom. Again awesome thread, its been super helpful for me already.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

thanks for all the help but im still not clear on where i should start...for example...whats better 600w total of hps or 600w total of hps(300w) and mh(300w) in the same hood. in other words should i split 600 watts between the two bulbs (hps and mh) or should i just go with 600w straight hps.

ps this is just an example. you could use whatever numbers you like.

second, does anyone know if 300 watts of hps lamp would cover a 2x4=8 square foot growing area?

third, bubble bucket users. i hear the plants get very wide due to the amount of root space. is there enough room for two bubble buckets in a 4x2 grow area

grow journal anyone?

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

back on page 18 Rumple, you, stated that you used " I add a glob of sillicone to hold them in place. I use two disks." for the airstones. I take it silicon is non toxic?

Also, I know you use ScrOG, what made you pick that method over LST?

Did you use regular hole saw blades to cut those holes in the bucket or special blades for plastic?

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Thanks a bunch man yea I know its a hard subject I guess that why I haven't been able to find very much on it... But I've already started and every thing is fine so yea thanks for all your step-by-step here.

But for the question above I don't know if you actually do ScrOG but this is what made me addicted to it. Don't know if it's posted on this forum but... http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.p...3&page=1&pp=15

Well that and I just happened to have a 400w sitting around.

I use Forester bits to cut the holes.

I did LST and topping at one time, the scrog method is faster with better results.

I use aquarium silicone, but I'm not sure if normal stuff would work as well. I bet it does not matter.

Thanks for reading all them posts. Lots of reading, but worth it I bet.

I think this question is best suited in the general forum. I have only grown in a small space with a single lamp. I wish I had the option to go with more lights. I don't know the answer to your question, sorry.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

IIRC the very best senerio for flowering is HID and 66%HPS and 33%MH for optimum growth, although i use MH for veg and HPS for flower atm.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Just curious what is the minimal pump (psi or cfm or w/e they measure airflow from a pump in) I can go with? The link you have to your pump in your parts list no longer works.

Also curious, when do you put your plant in this contraption? Do you have to wait till it has roots big enough to sprout out of the basket? or can you submerge the whole basket into the nutrtient solution as long as the clone has rooted?

One more question for now, is it nutrient solution or is just plain old water?

Rumple uses aquarium pumps at least 50 gal rating,100gal. pumps are better though.High quality pumps are rated in psi and LPM but lil aquarium pumps just give a gal. # for the aquariums size.10-20 gal systems seem fine with lil pumps although more air is IMHO better.I have 25 gal system and use an Alita AL-60 small pond pump with great results too.
