Vapor does contain nutrients. You can tell because wherever you see vapor condense, over time you will get a crusty buildup.

Generally I put my plants into their buckets after I see the first couple roots poke through the rockwool. From there it only takes a few days for the first roots to plunge into the buckets.

While it doesn't seem like it would, the hydroton really does wick enough moisture to the plant for it to get by for those first few days.

Thumbs up

Pretty wicked setups yall got for ur plants i use similar because it gives the best initial turnout for the bud and it is pretty easy to maintain.

I looked at your post (you can post direct links). Looks like your all set to start your own mini-farm. I'm not sure why you hooked up your fill points together. If you hook up your drains together, you only need to fill one bucket and they will always be at the same level (no matter how low the nutrients get). Nice start though. Thanks for the kind words.

My pre BB for flowering is in a 1" PVC 11 pot set up made months ago from cut in half 2 liter bottles(plans found all over the internet),w/3-4" net pots 3" deep and the solution is now set at 1" into the 3" deep pots.

My clones are sprouting white roots all over about 3/16" long, should i add hydroton to fill the 1"+1/2" so the rockwool doesent get soaked? And should i wait a lil longer so the roots reach lower? Cycle this system for 15 min 3 times a day??

I know this is not BB related but its close and i know you would know just what to do at this time, thanx man.

I don't know. I would think it's best to keep the roots in the dark as much as possible. I have not used that type of system, so I can't give a good answer.

Hi Rumpled in a later pic it shows that I changed the drainage to the more conventional style.
I'm using 2 pumps now it works a lot better. ( 1 for each bucket )

word,

first off this site and chat is amazing. I recently have started to grow and my searches brought me here. I am way more into now that ive been learning more about it. I decided to give some co2 a try and do it on a fixed budget. I read some chats about ways to do it with yeast and sugar in the 2L pop bottle. so heres what i got and id like to know if it will work like i hope it will.
I have:

2L pop bottle with hole in the side with a aquarium hose running to the bottom sylicon sealed attached to a aquarium pump bubbling the mixture(2 tbls sugar 2tbls yeast)

A hose sylicon sealed in the cap sticked out inside about 1.5 inches. the hose dangles above my plant about 6 inches.

I am wondering if the bubbles from the pump are enough to create enough co2 and how long its nessesary to keep the pump running. Also will it start to smell and how much?

PS sorry for posting on this thread i know its a little off topic but i couldnt get a response on the one i started(prolly cause im a newbie).

Bob, this is not the best place to get advice on home-brew CO2. I have tried two home brew techniques (vinegar/baking soda and yeast/sugar). I wanted a way to avoid refilling my CO2 bottles. I did the yeast/sugar in 5-gallon scale and could not get the CO2 more then 100PPM above normal. Not only did it fail to enrich, but what little gain it had went away in about six days. If your running in a vented grow, you will have zero gain from any home brew system unless you filled your room with hundereds of gallons of the stuff. Both setups smelled funkey. My feelings about home brew CO2 is: It does more for the grower's confidence then the plant's health.
I don't talk about this unless asked directly. I would not want to hurt the feelings of great growers who believe in such nonsense.

With that said... Any grower who goes to such lengths to please his/her plants, will have nothing short of amazing results. I believe some of the best weed grown is done by folks doing home-brew CO2. With such love for plants, how could this not be true?

I bet if you read every post in this thread, you would have tired eyes and be some what of an expert in DWC growing. I don't want to rob you of this great opportunity.

After you have read all the posts, I will answer in detail any question or questions you have (to the best of my limited knowledge).

Glad to help, R.

Good question. I don't know the answer. But I have an alternative to the gromets, that seems to hold up better: (from post number 11)
So you don't like grommets?

I have an alternative to using grommits. I was using grommits to hold the elbows of the sight indicator. It worked fine except it was hard to find the correct size grommit.

I found a better way of making the sight indicator that will still use the same size hole.

This is a 1/2" PVC elbow for flexible pipe. It can be found in the sprinkler section of the hardware store. You will need two of them.

A long with 2 o'rings and one 1/2" male adaptors on each end. Note: I cut about half the barbs off.

Make sure its the correct length and install it on the bucket.

Good luck, R.
