im thinking about making a drain system when its time to drain. to tell you the truth i just couldnt wait any longer because i had clones which were rooting and needed to go in. im growin my ice in the bubble bucket. and my ak48 and bluebs are growin in the soil. Im gunna go buy the other pump today. i have lots of bubbles already even with one airstone. cant wait to keep adding more. could i keep adding bubbles or does it not make a difference once you get to a certain point? i'm usin my gowbg foxfarm nutes for my bb. reccomended?

Hey Rumple, first off I would like to say I love how you contribute your knowledge to this site. It is very helpful and I am thinking of switching to hydro because I think it would be easier than soil, IMO.
I hae a question though, its pretty easy to make this unit but I want to read more books about hydro. I want to know how, when, to feed, what kind of nutes, etc. I want to know how to maintain, clean, everything you need to know about taking care of hydro plants. Do you recommend books I can read? Do you have any tips you could give me? I have no clue when it comes to taking care of the plants. drain this, drain that, when to feed, how much, what are the best nutes, etc etc. thanks in advanced. |

I found most the info in books out-dated. If DWC is your choice for hydro, then read every question in this thread. I think it just about covered everything. If you have read it and still have questions, then post it up and we will do our best to answer them.
A good soil premix (like Vic's super soil) is much easier then hydro but grows twice as slow. Good luck, R. |

Wow. Great, comprehensive post. Yet another variation of growing.
This is something I will definteily try after I get some more experience. With my impending first grow, I think I'll keep it as simple as possible. If things go wrong, I don't want too many variables to have to search through. Also, I believe instead of going through the aluminum tape process, if you can find a black bucket it works just as well. Industry stores UV material in black buckets, which blocks the light so the UV doesn't cure. That's if you can find them I guess. Last edited by Dune Trader : 12-18-2007 at 02:03 PM. |

dont cut corners on your bucket man problems down the road can lead to disaster your best off to do it up right the first time then get a leak during flowering or something

so the aluminum tape helps seal it huh. its just that ive got it all together waiting to be taped and then drilled. 5 buckets with net pots installed and every part required along with all the nutes ph correctors and grow mediums. and a lot of extra mylar. whats up with some insulating sleeves people.

i was watching a very interesting youtube video that discussed the many ways of growing with hydroponics. ive watched em all. they were using like a styrofoam hot pocket sock for a 5 gallon bucket. looks like mylar and styrofoam to me. keeps the heat out of the buckets. i would also like to add a serious thank you for this brilliant post. without it i would be headed in a much different direction. i bought a 12 valve koi pond air pump i was wondering what you thought of her. here are the links.

I just broke down and ordered black buckets. I will be building them into my system next cycle. Might still rap them in tape.
I love that pump. I am going that way myself. I just don't know what pump is the best. Very little info out on them. Let me know how much noise they make. Thanks, R. |

R, I ordered black buckets and lids from usplastic. Ive got 5 buckets all ready to drill and fill and today is day 8 of expecting 10 fem greenhouse white rhino from the doc. Since i am recreating what you have done, our grows are almost identical, and im super curious about what exactly you would do if you were me. im in a 5'x6' closet 8' high, with only one 4" 280cfm centrifugal, using 1000w mh and 1000w hps, and im still without a co2 system.. and no scrog screen yet.. Im still waiting on my air pump, my RO system, my hps, and my seeds so ive got some time to think it through and read some more. Im just fascinated by your harvests and dream of the day I can grow herb like yours. #1 fan right here. Ill be posting pics soon. Thanks a zillion you are the man.

Thats funny, I just got my five black buckets with lids from usplastic.com yesterday. **Great minds think alike**
I have a feeling usplastic.com has had a run on black 5 gallon buckets in the last week or so. I would start out with a 1/4 or 1/2 scale test grow with bag seed. Design your whole grow around your cooling system. Cooling seems to be the issue with indoor grows. Only run one of them bulbs at a time until you have the need or the correct setup to expand. My advice is "Don't get ahead of yourself". Fine tune a smaller grow before you broaden. No one ever listens to this advice (I know I didn't). Work on finding the right mother before your weed supply. It took me a few grows before I got the right plant to be the mother of my crop. You will still get a bag or two of weed while you do this, but it has to be done first. The seeds main mission is to create a mom, not a suitcase full of cronic. You can dial your grow in while you veg and flower your prospective mom/moms. Love to see pictures. I wish I had that much space. R. |
