Ive read through this whole thread and really like what i see, i have some questions and info which may help. As far as circulation of nutes i will give it a go since i just cant stop thinking about it, use a submersable pump in the pale with out a plant(your sump bucket),plumb it out above the water line, split it into how ever many buckets you have going back into the original fill fitting and all buckets will recieve the fresh nutes. As they fill the equalizer (lowest) tube will return the nutes to the sump bucket. Only use a sight tube on the sump, connect each bucket at the bottom only once,if you have more than two buckets be creative with tees so you dont have two holes in the bottom of any plant buckets. Maybe some check valves to keep nutes moving in only the right direction. Seems simple to me, but if my simple mind is too stoned for my own good let me know. And in 21 pages im yet to hear one person even talk about flushing their plants prior to harvest,Did i miss that? I got more but ill see if this helps first.

mordgrow, I'm not plumbing in water to my grow closet. I am using that filter to filter my nutrients while I use my pump. I wish I had a drain.

ocitown, it's possible to do a circulating DWC system with a reservoir. It will add more hoses and stuff to your system. I plan on keeping mine simple (less to go wrong). I am cool doing it manually every day while I visit my girls. My friend mordgrow is building a circulating DWC system to a plan at this site http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=26343.

I don't give all the details of DWC growing in this thread. This is more of a DIY system build. I will tell folks how I grow my weed if they ask, but I suggest you take my growing advice with a grain of salt. I don't consider myself as an expert in hydroponics. Lots of the stuff I do is copied from a grow instruction for dummies.

I flush with water the last ten days before harvest. I don't add any thing to my water.

Peace, R.

have you checked the PPM of your water after running it through that filter? i bet it drops significantly, i use something like that (quite a bit larger) for my house and it works AWSOME for my iron heavy well water. you can REALLY tell when the filter needs to be changed.. heh (and this is a pre filter before my water softener)

my DWC recirculating system is about 15% built.. haha :P im putting it on hold while i attend some training for work followed by a certification exam.. gotta cram!

I don't want a filter that will effect my PPM at all. I just want it to sift out the crap. I had to get some real basic filters to keep it from messing with my nutrient solution. Good thing they are real cheap. I tossed the one it came with (will use it in my RO system later).

A picture of the type I am using:

Damn R, that ought to get some water movin...water quality is everything!

While I'm here I thought I'd show you one of my latest out of your bubblebucket designs that I put together. This is just the basic design and very, very easy to put together and maintain. I feed nutes at 1/4 to 1/2 strength. Top off with nutes or just ph'd water depending on how they are taking up nutes, everyday. And I change each buckets solution every 10 days or so. They are quite perfect just the way they are...

think i could squeeze a 5 gal res and an RO filter into the cab area under a sink.. maybe with the water going to the RO system and the siink (tap into the cold line?) or a 10 gal rez.. hmm i'd have to pump it up out though too, so a fountain pump and attached line.. I supose i could squeze another rubbermade cotnainer with the filter moutned higher maybe?

hmmmm... I think my water quality ish olding me back right now.

will using this way of growing pot be hard for first grow? I'm almost done mine and i heard that growing with dirt is less likely to screw up.

Hi Im a complete "newbie" to growing. I have a question, is this something a beginer could possibly try or should it be postponed after experienced is gained. Im and sure I have answered my own question, but would be nice to get some input. Thanks

Use a 5 gal. pale with a float valve and throw a cheap submersable pump in it.

To bustajibb and burnweed, I would not do any type of hydro until you have the bugs worked out of your grow room and have learned the basics of indoor growing. To dive in and have everything hit you at once will cause more grief then it's worth.

When you have your grow room going like clockwork, the issues you will run into when you go hydo will seem minor.

A very simple way to start out is to do a premix soil grow. You wont have to mix plant food or add anything the entire grow. If you use 5-gallon buckets to do your soil grow in, then you will be all set when you switch over to my bubble buckets. Vic's super soil is my favorite premix:
1 Bale sunshine mix #2 or promix (3.8 cu ft)
8 cups Bone Meal - phosphorus source
4 cups Blood Meal - nitrogen source
1 1/3 cups Epsom salts - magnesium source
3-4 cups dolomite lime -calcium source & pH buffering
4 cups kelp meal.
9kg (25 lbs) bag pure worm castings

- Mix thoroughly, moisten, and let sit uncovered 1-2 weeks before use.

Doing a premix soil grow will allow you the time to concentrate on the grow-room environment. I did that Vic's soil for years and it kicks ass. Never add anything to it is the key (except water). When you can grow killer plants with Vic's everytime, then start building your DWC or other hydro kit.
Best of luck, R
