Hey Rump!

First wanted to say that a quarter of a million people have looked at this thread! That is amazing, you should be very proud. Thank you for your help

Done a few soil grows but you have inspired me to see the way of the hydro

New clones may require you to keep the nutrient level touching the bottom of the netpot until you see roots, then drop it down one inch.

i am going from seed and was wondering after I get good root develoopment and I am ready to trasnplant into netpot with hydroton should I keep the res level lower and hand water until the roots are able to touch? Or should I do like you said above and touch the water to the netpot and bubble? Do you see an advantage in one or the other?

The hydro store only has 5.5 and 8inch netpots, would the 8 inch be too big in the 5 gal bucket? I was planning on vegging for a while so thats why I was leaning toward the 8 inch

Thank you very much for your time

Hey Rump let me start off by saying your the man, I've been reading this thread forever and until now have not had the balls to try it. Lets just say that has all changed just out of curiousity if i have an area that is 5'6"wide by 25" deep and a 8' ceiling height what would be the max amount of ladies to put in there with the bb setup, I was thinking about lst any thoughts?

The 8" baskets will cause you to drop the nutrient capicity of each bucket to 2.5 gallons. I would rather have the smaller basket so i could keep more nutrient in the bucket.

Touching the bottom of the basket seems to work for new clones. But you can still water the rockwool if you like. Just keep a close eye on it for the first two days.

The answer is: As many as you can fit.
set some empty buckets in that space and see what looks right.

Thanx for getting back so quick, I can fit six but the tops of the bb's would be touching is that ok? Also do you know of a good chiller or a way to keep the water temp between 65 and 70? Again thank you for all the useful input any info is greatly appreciated.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Thank you also for your response. I see what you mean by the 8" basket being too deep and taking away some of the water. But what if I used a 7 gal bucket instead of the 5 gal? That would drop the res level 5.5 gallons corret?

I also wasnt going to use rock wool I was going to use these rapid rooter cubes after germination and then into a humidity dome until I see good root development.

where in the basket should I place the plant? I was thinking that 3/4 full of hydroton and then the plant and some more hydroton as it grows. Is that too far up in the basket to have the bubbles hit it?

Sorry for all the questions I am starting to feel like a noob :/

I would go with one less bucket to give the plants room to grow.

Lots of good small chillers out on the net. Just keep in mind that you need to run the chiller outside your closet. They make a ton of heat.

Better yet, a 7-gallon bucket with that 5" basket. The more room the better.

Place a layer of hydroton down and then place your plug in and fill it up. Try and get it so you can fill your basket to the top with hydroton without burying the plant.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

I was thinking about hooking up 4 buckets in series with a 10 or 20 gal res and was worried about the temp of the water getting too high. I know youve probably been asked this before but have you had any trouble with root rot or res temps over 75 F?

Yo Rump,

Have you seen the Ice Probe Chiller? I think it would be a very practical solution. Also available is the controller unit. I am not sure how many chillers you can hook up to one controller, but as you can see it can be easily added to a BB set up. The probe on the tip would poke through the inside of the BB. I plan on using it in the near future. I may have seen them in this thread, so sorry if I am repeating.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Hey Icon I saw those ice probes and was not sure they would work because it says it can cool 10gal by 6-8 degrees. I guess it would depend on how much water you had
