one quick word of caution.

I noticed one of my plants clawing and turning brown.

PH was good. Everything was good.

Until i lifted up the lid and saw little to no bubbles.

I tried blowing through the line myself and the stones were clogged fully.


So for those of you just throwing the 3 inch disc air stones in and leaving them a for a few months they will clog and not work. well at least mine did.

I would suggest building and apparatus that separates the roots from the discs.

For the time being I just stuck some new stones down the sides till i finish this grow.

Next grow I will cut a round piece of plastic and drill some holes in it and have that as the air stone compartment at the bottom.

Hopefully she perks back up!

Is there any way to add oxygen to the water some other way to give it a boost of 02?

Maybe that O2 water they make....

I'm sure an air stone is much more useful than the oxygenated water they sell in stores. Also pretty sure one of the most effective ways to gain dissolved oxygen in water is to add a waterfall. But your air pump should do fine.

This is why it is important to use two stones or disks in each bucket. Both wont fail, but I have had one plug up on me as well. I take it a step further, each disk in the bucket is powered from a different air pump. I have had my air pump fail on me three different times. Only one time did a stone plug up.

I change disks every other grow. They get funky after two grows. The small one inch stones should be replaced every harvest.

hey rump. im almost all set up to go. i got 3 5 gal buckets, one is going to be reservoir and other 2 for plants. I really like the flowjet pump and i was wondering what the model of yours is? Also for the buckets what air stones would you recommend? Also I noticed that you have your 3 buckets hooked to each other with 1/2" pvc. I was wondering if you think it would be better to have them hooked up via black tubing, maybe 1" ID or would it not make much of a difference.

I am harvesting my first setup today (63 days from start) and I was wondering, do you trim all the leaves before of after it dries? I won't get as much as I had hoped for but no complaints for my first time. Another thing, my root ball was kinda yellow compared to your pics, any thoughts on that? Any time your gonna be near West Covina you are invited for a sample, thanks a million.

Flowjet 4300-501 (I think).

I like using the the disks. I think they are 2" or 3" (don't matter).

The PVC seems to drain a bit faster, but it does not matter much. I did crack my PVC one time, it cant flex at all.

If you hook up in series, it's a good idea to make an extra drain in the reservoir bucket. One drain to hook to the other buckets and one to hook to the service pump.

You only need one sight indicator (less holes to drill) if they are hooked up in series.

Congrats on your first harvest! Lots of ways to dry your weed. I am going to do a "step by step" at my next harvest (July 1st). I dont trim anything until harvest day. On harvest, I take most the sun leaves off, but dont spend a lot of time doing it. I cut the plant into sections (look at my harvest gallery). I hang each section (cola) upside down in a dark place with a small oscillating fan on low. I leave it for three to five days then I do the manicure party. I take the bud and place it in brown bags and layer it with shredded brown bag (layer of bud, layer of shredded bag, layer of bud and so on). Place back in the dark place for another two days, then relayer your bags (mix it up) and place the bags back in the dark place for one more day. Depending on your humidity, it should be ready for the jars. Over dry is much better then under dry. Your bud will start to smell like killer weed after a few days in the jar. Always keep your bud in the dark.

63 total, I wanted to go longer but got the powdery mildew and had to harvest early. Wont get as much as I hoped for but hey it's my first shot.

What would you use to start a seed in before you transfer to a bubble bucket and how long would you wait before giving any nutrients and how long before transplanting to the bubble bucket.

Hey Rumple!
You say somewhere early in this thread (jan. 2007 I think) that you use a 400w HPS for flowering. Are you still using just that or did you get bigger lights? I can't believe you get all this shit from a single 400w HPS.

I'm planning a system now with 12 plants and 1x600w + 2x400w and I've been wondering how much yield I should be able to squeeze out of that.
