They break down and look like melted sugar. If you touch them they come apart. Even the 3" stone did the same thing (the blue one). They have wood and ceramic stones that last forever. Thet cost a bit more, but not much.

I have found the type stone will not effect much.

thanx for the rapid reply.... I think I will try the ceramic ones that you mention, supposed to last 4 times longer, we will see, lol

I'm starting a new grow next month and will try several diff types of stones just out of curiosity... I'll let ya know.

Again thanx for for your pictorial, well done.

Thanks for the great info Rumple! Could you give an overview of bucket construction from pics. on New Years Day. They look different than the bubble bucket build. Any comments wether this would work with organic hydro?

I'm always looking to improve my system. I have tried a bunch of stuff, some works some is a waste of time. The basic design seems to work pretty good. I have not found anything that made a big difference yet.

The DWC method of growing will work great with organic.

Yea rumples I am a total convert over to the bubbles. I do have a question, However; I don't have a TDS meter, so right now I watch water quality by sight. I have two girls up now, one shows good water quality, the other seems to always have crap(organics)in the water when I check PH and do nute changes. What could be causing this? Also I was wondering if the 10 days for changing nutes is set in stone. Sometimes I feel like I am throwing away good nutes. Thanks dude

You can keep your nutrients longer then ten days, it depends on your feeding method. I use the Lucas Formula , it gives me a few options. I can dump the nutrients every two weeks or use a good TDS meter to add more in.

You need to check you PH every day. After flowering I have to adjust it a few times a week.

Thanks for the help, I am noticing that the ph is swinging quite a bit since I am in the second week of flower. I'm trying the lucas method but right now its kinda confusing to me. But like anything else I guess I'll just learn as I go. I'm checking ph regularly with the drops in the bottle method? but I'm thinking my next purchase should be a tds meter if I want to do this bubble stuff? Have a great week there dude

Question Questions??

Am I to understand that the water stays in the bucket for the entire growth cycle?
What type of nutrients?
One air pump for all buckets?
That was the coolest looking setup ..,and result I have ever seen(not that Ive seen much)
I am what you would call a starving old guy..,fed up with thieving ex`s and corrupt gov.
I have a little room that I have put to use in the old way (buckets and dirt)(18 buckets)
but I can see that if I am going to do this I may as well do it right.
As I know nothing about this new stuff any advise or direction would be greatly appriecated

I always tell folks to start out growing weed in soil. You can get the same results, just not as fast. Try a good premix soil grow. You wont have to add anything but water. The best premix formula I have used is Vic's Super Soil. Do the revised recipe and do worry about trying to find "fritted trace elements", it's fine without. To this day everyone says my hydro is good but the soil had the best flavor. I still keep my mother plant in Vic's soil mix. Don't add any plant food to that mix or it will ruin it. It is fine with only water, as long as your plant is in 3-gallon or bigger pots.

The bubble buckets stay full of nutrients the whole time. You should read this whole thread. After reading my thread, if you still have questions, I will be glad to try and answer them.

Good luck, R.
