Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

LEDs have a long way to go before it grows weed any place close to HIDs. That system costs $2,275.00 and is a complete rip off if you ask me. I have yet to see a LED grow do better then what can be done with CFLs.

The only folks saying good things about LEDs are the folks selling them and a few folks who have not tried to finish a crop with them. Might be ok for bellpeppers, but they suck for growing weed.

You are better off giving half the money to another friend and have him kick you in the shin. This way you will still have half your money to get a grow operation going and a happy friend.

Hey R,

I thought I remembered you saying that they suck. I was definitly not going to buy them cause I cant afford that kind of shit, but my buddy is getting some money and is convinced that LED is the way to go. I will ask him to give me half of the money, it would definitly make me a happy friend. Thanks again boss.

Question Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Hi Rumpleforeskin,

I probably should be posting my questions in the appropriate forums so others could possibly help me. The problem is, I have been reading this thread every day for a week and came to the conclusion your the MAN.

My dad is retired from the military and two years short from retiring from the post office. He got into an accident a few years ago, and broke his neck, back, and compound fracture to his lower leg. He has been in pain every since. Nothing seems to help with the pain but POT. Anyway, last week he obtained his medical marijuana license and he wants me to grow his bud for him. I have never grown before. My dad has the cash to purchase whatever I need to make this happen. I would like to be set up like you one day, but I want to learn and start out SMALL. He said I can grow bud in his closet, his crawl space, garage, or the 10x12 shed next to his house. Would my best bet be using the shed for my first grow. I was also wondering If I can use a broken refridgerator and turn it into a grow room using 1 maybe 2 bubbble buckets. Would connecting fridges together by cutting out the back, and reconnecting them work, for a bigger grow room? I have a friend in the appliance business. Thanks in advance for you help.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Hey rumple, i had read on another thread that i only need 100 wat hps for 1 plant during flower doing a scrog. im using floros for the veging time. my screen area is 2x3 feet. but to get to my main question if i have a small fan blowing air out and a small fan on the inside will i still need to have some kind of cooling system for my hps light? i plan on getting two 50 watt hps lights if i can but i think the smallest one i can get is 125 watts. Let me know what you think.
P.S its going to be summer and il have the central air going im in the basement so i get serious pumping cool air if i open the vent.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Hey I know you're asking rump, but I was asking myself this same question and was looking for an easy way w/out ventilation. If you can keep the temps good without having serious fans in the room thats fine, but, you're going to want to exhaust the air in the room and provide the plants with fresh air either way. There's really no way getting around it unless you have a wide open space that can flow air well. Fans help to reduce static air and eventually mold or pests but an exhaust system with an intake and exhaust is the best. But anyway, see what he has to say!

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Gloran and dirtyduane, you shold understand that ventilation is the hardest part of indoor growing. The best way to grow weed is with HID lamps, and they get mega hot. Even the 125W lamp will require constant ventilation if inclosed in a small space.

When selecting a new grow space, take in consideration ventilation first. Some things can help solve ventilation issues, such as room height. The higher the room the easier it will be to cool. It's hard to beat the advantages of a tall grow room. Heat will rise, and if it can rise well above your plants before being collected, it will be easier to maintain the desired temps (75 to 80 degrees).

Another thing that helps ventilation is a cool intake source. Try and locate a place that will give you cool air all year round. The cooler the air, the less your fan will have to cycle to cool your room down.

Try and exhaust out the top and intake at the lowest place possible. I make my intake holes twice as big as my exhaust.

dirtyduane, look around your home and try and find a simple place to ventilate. Using built in vents and plumbing is a bonus. Keep in mind that ventilation makes noise.
I would do my first few grows in good soil. You don't want to learn hydro while troubleshooting a new grow room.

Vics Super Soil is a good choice. You mix in all the nutrients and never have to feed again. Only add water and harvest good bud the first time round (if you can ventilate).

Vic's Super Soil:

1 Bale sunshine mix #2 or promix (3.8 cu ft)
8 cups Bone Meal - phosphorus source
4 cups Blood Meal - nitrogen source
1 1/3 cups Epsom salts - magnesium source
3-4 cups dolomite lime -calcium source & pH buffering
4 cups kelp meal.
9kg (25 lbs) bag pure worm castings

- Mix thoroughly, moisten, and let sit (uncovered) 1-2 weeks before use.

Hey R Quick Question,

Today is 2 weeks from start of flowering/nute change but I have only added back 6 gal of water. I was going to add back the final 4 gallons today but my reminder to change the nutes went off, what should I do

To be honest you don't really have to be that picky. I have missed 4 days of not topping off with no issues....i just fill it back up...the PH had been steady for me every time I check it.

Now that im flowering it can drink half of the bucket in 24 hours so i have to be more careful but have never noticed any issues with my wacky top offs.

The plant is out of control though. I didnt expect such wild vigorous growth.

Wow! Nice plant you got. That thing is going nutz. Kinda looks like it will come out square.

You can change your nutrients every day if you wanted to. Most of us try and get our money's worth and change it only when it is watered down or switching to flowering. Your plant will always do better with less food then it needs rather then more. I have noticed best growth rates when I keep the nutrients at the correct level and fresh.

Re: Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step*

Hey also,

My brother said he read in High Times a long time ago that if you stick the roots in boiling water right after pulling the plant it will push all the extra THC to the buds. What do you think of that.

I read that also. That is old school, they did not know what made the THC back then.
The only thing you will get from boiling the roots is a mess and a smell.
