Just did a quick look online for air pumps....

Amazon has pretty good prices for the Whisper 60 and 100 gallon pumps. Easily can run 2 airstones per bucket. I think with shipping it was like $23 per pump.

Niiicee much simpler than flood n drain in my opinion. there are no weight restrictions on growing where i am. i once made 2 huge flood and drain pots that flooded and drained in under 3 minutes. using a strong pump, rockwool/clay pebbles, and airstones in the resivoir, and a 1000w hps, On this occasion the buds was chronic and there was 8 of them produced nearly 26 ounces dry witch is prettttttyy good considering it was pretty much a s.o.g. my question is whats your biggest harvest from 1 plant using your design?

I don't have a scale. The last plant I harvested was about the best single plant yeild I have had. You can see all the pictures of the Thanksgiving day harvest here:
http://forum.grasscity.com/general-i...-pictures.html

This is a single 70 day old plant:

After it dried I filled 7.5 mason jars.

I harvest again Sunday. I have 2 plants that size this time. Will need help trimming.

Some new info:

I use the duel diaphragm air pump from General Hydroponics. If you have a pump like this, it would be a good idea to keep a rebuild kit handy. Or a spare pump. Mine just went out (hole in the diaphram).

The kits cost $20. You can get them for $12 at http://www.wormsway.com .
I have two pumps like this and both need a rebuild after less then 8 months of use.

I think I would rather go with a high output pump like the eco-plus or durapump from Sunleaves. The rebuild kit is only $1.95

This pump puts out more air and is half the price. I just don't know how loud the are.

No that was Thankgiving day harvest. I will post some pictures of last Sundays harvest soon. It looked to be close to twice that of my Thanksgiving day harvest.

Hey Rumples congrats on the bountiful harvest there, I am curious about the air pump. How many hours would you estimate you have on that particular diaphragm?

Air Stones

Thanx RumpleFS for the fine hands-on pictutorial. Very nice job.

My question is what air stone is best? After doing my due deligence I realize an airstone is dependent on the pump. However what airstone is best for optimal grow?

I have seen (1) small one, (2) small ones and 3 inch to 5 inch round ones.

I had 8 months of continuous use before the pump took a crap on me. The rebuild kit is way over priced. Most pumps have kits that cost less then $5. The kit will cost me $20 per pump with shipping to rebuild .

I have tried all kinds of air stones. I don't know if one is better then the other. The ones I have listed in this thread are only good for one cycle. They fall apart after one grow, but they only cost a buck to replace. I just tried the flexible snake type, they can be used again.

What matters is the pump. The more volume of air, the faster the growth and nutrient use (my opinion). My plants health got noticeability better when I boosted the air volume in each bucket.

And that harvest is from over three months ago. I harvested Sunday but I have not posted pictures yet. I need to edit my ugly face out of them before posting. Will get that done tomarrow.
Peace, R.

Yep, I've been looking at those snake type aeraters too. They look like they would be the needs. So they clean up nice? I'm using the big round ones right now, looks like they will probably need to be replaced before long. They seem to hold the organics pretty good. Maybe thats a good thing. That even after nute changes theres a little bio left in there for the next mix. (essential fungis) Thanks big R

Thanx Rumple and 421

Thanx guys.... but that opens the door for numerous more questions on airstones... the rest I think I have figured out.

Bigger is better, so an air compressor thru a garden hose is not stealth, lol. OK, not a good idea.

I looked at the flex snake, small airstones you use, but I feel the round 3 inch stones or bigger may work best.... hmmm next grow i may do a study and post here my results.

Also wondering why are the stones only good for one cycle? Do nutes break them down faster?
