Talking Trimming (newbie)

Hi all.

I have had a look around on the site but can't find any info on trimming.

Those bigger branches that sit under the proposed flowers.

How early can you trim them.

I heard from some where, maybe wrong, is to trim the bigger branches back to allow the juices to get to the much needed growth.

How soon can you do this?

Does it help growth? Or hinder?

I have only one plant growing. I think it's a mail. But all the same, going to keep with it. Usualy can't even grow a garden weed. So the fact it's alive, to me is major.

It's about 5 inches tall. I have trimmed the bigger leaves just to see what happens.

I gave it Baby Bio last night. Started to take it from the window sill to the bed stand with a ordinary 40watt bulb to shine on it for the rest of the night. 18/6 light it's getting at the moment. I know lighting isn't good enough and it's very slow in growing.
Haven't got a camera, sorry.
Getting my equipment together slowly(blarrr) for my bedroom cupboard.

The question is about timming?????

I have read that it is good to leave all of the leaves on the plant. Unless they look like they are dying then you can cut them, but otherwise I wouldn't.

I agree, don't cut off any healthy leaves unless you have a very good reason.

I find that when I grow under my 400W M/H I need to move and bend the bigger fan leaves as they get so huge but never cut them off.

Theoretically you can trim when your plant has 2 leaves.
Just cut off one and leave the other.
I wouldn't know why anyone would want to do that.

People don't trim to mess with the juice flow.
People trim to get a certain shape.
People cut off tops so the plant will make hormones to promote side shoots.
Sometimes people cut off big ol' fan leaves to let the light shine on the lower newly developed side shoots.

So in essence people only trim AFTER they run into some kind of 'problem'.

I'm no expert but I would say that trimming would do more harm than good, because it would stress the plant. Now if you're in veg and you want to top the plant that's a different story. You're last plants looked pretty good what happened to the other two? And how much did you yeild off of the one that was left?

Talking Not died yet

Gave it another dose of Baby Bio last night and it's grown about 10mm. The growth that was sat in the side leaves have doubled nearly. Startin to bush more at the top and stem thickening.

Looks good.

what the hell are you all saying? you must not be looking around enough. trimming, toping and fimming is the best thing to do to your plants. thats why i have 2.5 foot tall bushes that are a foot and a half radius. cut the growth tip off. then tie the main stem to where its parallel witht the dirt.(90 degrees) and when the new branches get to a decent size. tie those sluts back. i got two mother plants i am flowering that have been veggin for 2.5 months. they have well over 40 decent size colas. as far as trimmimng goes cut only the big fan leaves. leave secondary growth because the plant needs some leaf for photosynthesis. trimming allowes your plant to get more light through the branches. which in turn gives you more bud sites. yes it slows the plants growth but not by much. trust me it helps. last harvest i pulled 2.5 oz. off of two plants that were less than two feet tall. if you dont hear me check out dire wolf's shit. the real dire wolf. hes got some monsters from trimming and fimming.
