Talking How do YOU keep temps down?

my setup is almost ready to introduce my plants (which I havent started).
-mylar is up
-400 watt hps/mh switchable up
-fertilizers comiing this week
-seeds comiing this week
-pots filled with soil and neatly arranged
-oscillating fan coming this week too for wall mount

BUT I HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

its a closet about 2.5 by 4.5 (actually an overestimate where 2x4 is an underestimate) and i have the door locked and sealed with weather stripping so no light permeates the edges of the door when it gets dark. HOT hot hott.

not sure how much that oscillating fan im gettin is going to help just know i need ventilation some how...

winter is on horizon and it will get to be 30 degrees Fahrenheit or less in the next 2 months. Windows open in my place and door to closet open during the day keep it cooler you think? I have pets though so need to be quite considerate. And i dont wanna come how to a freezer box.

aNy other known methods to regulate temp? SINCE u now know dimensions. 8 plants to much? i have white widow seeds from drchronic on the way. im thinking the best solutino for the spacing issue and getting the most outta it is topping. You think thats the right choice? 1 plant per sq foot + topping = excellent yield for space ratio??????? or is there something that im not acknowledging.

Thanks for your help and if you have any questions after answering mine, Ill be glad to answer them for you right here in this thread. Thanks guys.

why not do lst... also i face the same problem as u, i have no idea how to get fresh air in when the temps will be 40-50 F, i might just leave my window open with a screen on it and see how cold it gets.. of course ill have the heat on in my grow room, baseboard heating, which helps a lot... because i can control heat better in there

Well if you don't have an inline fan, some ducting, and a whole in the ceiling to vent out the air, then good luck. That 400 MH/hps puts off about 20-25 degrees above room temp. I had to move my setup in my shower where theres AC blowing in. I'll definately save up for an inline fan for my next grow.

And you shouldn't grow more than 6 plants with a 400watt. Ideal is 4. You want 100 watts per plant. That's why you should buy female seeds.

INDEED , i did purchase 100% feminized white widows. They cost like 70 bucks... Anywayyz, im in an apartment so having holes in walls bigger than something a nail would leave behind could be suspicous and unnecessary. Im thinking about getting an inline fan and leaving the door open and just getting some duct that carrys cool air from outside (ie a window) into the grow room. I wont have an exhaust but i wont really need one if im going to end up leaving the door open for most of the day.

if i carry cool air in, like 40 degree air, is that too cold u think?

- do inline fans have control settings for speed? if not, can u get one that does?

- IM NOT HEATING MY APARTMENT THIS YEAR!!! im like a plant too, i need ideal conditions to live in.

NEED ALTERNATIVES!!! OPEN DOOR WITH DUCT GOING IN IS BAD IDEA IF I HAVE GUEST/ PARENTS ETC COME OVER...!!

All in all, i think its going to work out.

BrazyJay, baseboard heating is sumthin like 100 watts per foot. Expensive. Dont Let ur money float out the window...

In addition, wouldnt lst not be the best choice if my ceiling height is 8 ft and i have the ability to grow a plant to about 4 ft? LST seems like a high maintenance ordeal. It seems pretty simple but are the yields really that good? And wont it take longer?!?!?!

Finally, suggest a temp range and humidity range for veg.... for flowering?

So far, expense for operation exceeds $750. :/ Turnover better exceed expense!!
