who uses floro tubes and cfl's only?

i'm kinda just taking a poll to see how many of us just use floro tubes and cfl's. i've got two four foot dual tube ballasts with two 40w/3300 lumen bulbs in each (actually i have 3 but only room for two right now) and three spiral cfl's 100w/1700 lumen each in home depot "clamp lamps". up until last week i had only the tubes set up, my plants are roughly 80 days old (3 ladies total) and have been flowering for two weeks. after setting up the cfl's my babys really woke up. i'm wondering how well i'll make out/yield with this setup. i know alot of people say if i go with a hps set-up i'll never look back but for heat/ventilation/space restrictions i can't do a hid light. any tips, critique, suggestions, and input is greatly appreciated.

as many CFL as possible for veg then on flowering i use a 400 watt HPS to make big ass buds. lets face it, CFL are great for veg growth but when it comes to yeild of buds HPS owns all.

cfl's

I'm just growing with cfls, mainly because this is my first grow and I didn't want to overcomplicate things when it came to ventilation etc. Also, It was kind of a half-arsed unplanned, kitchen windowsill just to see if I could sort of grow and I had to use what I had available! So far veg-wise things are going great. I haven't started to flower yet but I'm not over fussed on high yield so whatever happens will just happen and be a bonus.

i started out in the same frame of mind as godiva, but as the plants matured i got the fever for fresh green bud- and lots of it. still though, heat and ventilation is a problem so i'm going to stick to cfl's. any idea how high wattage you can get cfl's?

CFL's are good for a small grow, as long as you get the right spectrum and a good ammount of lumens.

Lol, because hps lights get hot that means they are shit? Let's see, even a 150w hps would kick the shit out of your 2 15w cfl's. Don't diss hps lights because you can't afford them. Hps lights don't give off that much heat, all you need is proper ventilation. Besides, they make smaller hps lights which do not give off as much heat (150w, 250w, etc.). By the way, your sig is entirely pointless and not true, hps/mh > fluros. Seriously take that the fuck out of your sig, don't go around bad mouthing hps lights because your a newb and can't afford them. Your not even experienced enough to know anything about the lights themselves.

DING : right on the money.

I read WAY TOO MUCH negative and incorrect stuff about fluro/CFL.

I know better, and so does Grow Buddy

I did one 108W fluro tube grow recently and kept a log:

http://forum.grasscity.com/general-indoor-growing/91096-needs-professional-assistance-flowering.html

Now I'm doing a 216W fluro tube CFL combo grow journalled and all :

http://forum.grasscity.com/grow-journals/102259-urgr8estfear-2nd-fluro-only-soil-grow-start-finish.html

If you read both you shouldn't have too many questions left.

Ive done 2 grows with 3 x dual tubes which made 6 tubes at 40W (240W). The first one turned out ok, but yield really wasnt that great, even from 6 plants. I think I got maybe 1.5 ounces from it all. The 2nd one I was using crap seeds and turned out about the same. Just for reference, my 3rd grow thats current going, I switched to a 400W HPS at flower and 20 days in, they already have bigger buds than the fluro grows did when they finished.

Yeah but I've down 25 grams on a single plant 108Watts on my first grow, so.....you could have done a whole lot better then that!

I bet you had no proper strategy to get many budsites and get them all close the the light. LST or repeated topping/upsidedown christmas tree I mean.

yea, fluro's are fine to grow with..my first grow was with a 125w 10,000 lumen cfl. But that b52 dude is slamming hps lights without even trying to use them. Just because they give off light he claims they are "shit". Cfl's still give off a decent amount of heat, especially since your going to need several of them to flower one or more plants. If heat is a problem, then get better ventilation. I've seen people use 400w hps's in very small cabs with proper ventilation and they were fine. Plus, his sig is giving misinformation about hps/mh lights. It doesn't even make sense, hps and mh lights give the best spectrum for plants. MH is perfect for vegging, and hps are perfect for flowering. All bulbs waste some light spectrum, because the plant obviously doesn't use every color emitted by the light. what else is funny is he hasn't even used any hps or mh lights, and is expecting to grow plants with (2) 15w cfl's that probably cost him $5. Honestly b52, go out and buy an hps and try it...it's a plain fact that mh/hps lights give a much better yield due to their high lumen output. It would take about 70 of your 15w cfl's to equal the lumen output of my one 400w hps. fluro's are fine like i said, but don't spread around bullshit about lights you haven't even used or probably seen.
