How to flush salts from shitty coco coir? Help, please!
Hey, guys... I made an order with an online hydro shop.... long story short they sent me a different brand than what was listed on their site, and I'm scared as hell to even use it, because I've heard these cheaper brands of coco have a really high sodium content. The brand I received is Earth Juice ProCoir.... like all other companies it lists how it's been treated and all of that, but I don't trust it, and I'm stressed out over all of these fucking problems with people not shipping me what I paid for.
So, I've read around a little and seen that everyone that uses any brand of coir other than canna coco and b'cuzz coco always have to prepare their coir before they can use it. So, I need help with how to prepare it... I'm going to try to cut it up into smaller pieces before I expand it so it will be easier to work with... and I'm going to try to rinse it with water as best as I can, but what else do I need to do? I've heard of people using flushing solutions like clearex on it, and also heard of people soaking it in a solution of cal mag.... keep in mind, I don't have either of those things at the moment, so if I can get by without them, then I'd like to.
So, anyone who knows what I need to do, please help me out.
After reading about the lucas formula that's probably what I'll be using (but in lower doses since it will be used with the coir medium instead of ebb n flow or dwc)... with the GH bloom & micro... or maybe vita link since they have N-P-K all completely separate. He figured out that the coco-specific nutrients like canna coco, etc. all have a lower P & K during the formula they give for the flowering period, because coco starts out pretty much inert, but when it starts to breakdown it releases a lot of P & K... so I will manually take care of that and just give less P & K during flowering than what is recommended.
I will also use just straight water now and then to make sure salts don't build up too badly over time, but for now I need to pretreat it and try to flush out as much of the excess salt as possible before I can even start using it. Help me out, please. I'd really appreciate it.
