Why did my thread "Negro lip" get deleted? I am pissed. I asked a legitimate question, I wanted to know if African Americans are offended by the term and someone goes and deletes it. Fuck that shit, I am a nice person, but when someone disrespects me by removing a thread containing a question that I wanted wanted to know the answer to, I am going to get upset. Especially when you don't even have the courtesy to send me a message telling me that it was removed and for what reason. It's not like I said anything offensive in my question.

it was probably removed because it had racial content. even if you werent intending on it, it could definitely offend someone.

Fuck that shit, the question was asking if I, or someone else for that matter, used the term '*****r lip' in front of an African American person, would they be offended? I don't see how asking a formal question such as that could be offensive.

yes i know, but imagine if people had a term for smoking because your race has bigger lips, many people are insecure or just pissed with stuff like that.

Every single group of people has their negative stereotypes and their positive stereotypes, if used to create prejudice then it is wrong, but to ask a question based on a term or stereotype should never be frowned upon. Asking questions and getting to know eachother just brings us together. If we try to hide the prejudices in our world today, we will just grow apart. If we talk about our differences and misconceptions, if we laugh and joke about our stereotypes we break down that wall that lies between us. Not allowing me to ask such a simple question is like us not allowing a christian housewife to ask about the facts of the use of marijuana. Ignorance just allows us to maintain those stereotypical ideas of how the minority groups are.

yea Analog i agree with you 100%, i don't see how people can be offended by such minor things, such as someones lips, i mean its natural so who cares,when theres a lot of important things to worry about such as maybe terrorism or something, or you know those deadly pot smokers

Read the terms and conditions that set the guidelines for moderation. They're in every forum. I'm unsure who removed it at this moment but I stand behind them. However, I think a PM to you with an explanation as to why it was removed should have been sent.

If you can't read your above sentence and know the answer to your question through common sense from being a member of today's society then I don't know what to tell you. I do know that we have an amazingly diverse group of stoners here and no one should be made to feel uncomfortable for any reason, especially race.

You pretty much said it right there. I agree with you, its not like you were saying you dont like black people because they have bigger lips. ****** lipping might have had a rascist connotation in the past but I think now it still exists through general slang. I think an african american who already knew what the expression meant wouldnt be offended.

It shouldn't be offensive because I said it in such a way which would be hard to mistake for disrespect. I don't think it is reasonable, however, to not allow a serious question not to be asked. It was obvious that I meant in no way to offend anyone. Even though I do not agree with you, I will respect the decision.

I'm glad you respect the decision that was made because I just read the thread; I would have removed it, also. We're too diverse of a group to let something like that float. I truly believe that you meant no disrespect but it was offensive and, overall, not good.

Why does everyone act like they only hang out with people of only one race? Is that how it really is? I can tell you right now, from having friends that are not all of the same race, it wouldn't float...with anyone I know. Common sense! HELLO!!! It's disrespectful and it goes beyond stereotypes.

The thread in question specifically had a comment stating that the poster wanted to know the answer because they didn't want to offend anyone if it was offensive...therefore knowing that it would indeed, more than likely, be offensive.


On a side note...maybe everyone needs to read the forum guidelines that are posted in every forum if you're thinking that such things are cool to post.

Had I not lost my cable modem connection due to a severe thunderstorm last night, you would have been pm'd about it. I was planning on sending you the pm when I logged on today, but it appears there is now no need for that. The reason it was removed is because even if you were not intending it to come across that way, that term is very racial to some people. Having 18,366 other users on these boards to think about, I realized that a large percentage of our member base could very well indeed be offended by the term you used.
