My Awesome Idea! (at least I think it's awesome!)
Quote:
First off, I wasn't sure what forum to put this in, so I deeply apologize if It's the wrong one. Hey, we'll i'm chillin here on Adderall, a tiny tiny bit of klonopin to keep my anxiety down, and smokin some bub from my bubbler... and I got a great idea! *Lightbulb* I know at least some of you mods have got to be tired of moving threads, right? I came up with a solution, but it may take some coding, which i'm sure it wouldn't be too hard with someone who has knowledge is this general area. The idea is that when someone posts a thread in the wrong forum, instead of a mod moving it, all they have to do is mark the post, which takes like two seconds. I think a good place would be by the rep area, and only mods can see it. It's like you select the correct forum, and it sends a PM to the person. (with that popup PM thing, it would be hard to miss, wouldn't it )Now this could not do anything, but here's the kicker. The person cannot post again until he/she has fixed where the thread goes. Not only can this help make the moderator's job's easier, but I believe it would help stop people from posting in the wrong section. I photoshopped up some things to demostrate my idea. Also, when the person gets the message, it could have a link to the rules to remind them how things run around here at the city . Another Idea that came to mind is a message just like that popup when you have a PM, except no PM. And basically, like i'm sure you've seen it before, maybe on windows... the screen darkens and the "popup" shows up forcing you to move the thread or leave pretty much. I appreciate you taking the time to read and consider this, as I put a lot of effort into this... good ol' addy's. On to the pictures, these should help demonstrate my idea much better: Our first picture shows a simulation of what it would look like for a mod sending the message to a blade (i'm not sure how mods move threads, so if this if very similar to how a mod does it, i apologize): ![]() now I added a "Send Warning" button because I believed that some posts may need a PM and some may not, depending on what type of post the person makes. We have very good moderators here, I have no doubt they would use their best judgment in when and when not to "warn" or whatever you wish to call it. vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv Our second picture shows the PM a person would get (hypothetically of course). ![]() I forgot to mention in the "PM" that it would tell the person what forum it needs to be put it. vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv Our third & fourth pictures are alike, as in they are two ways to handle one situation The third one here shows if a person were to try and post, they would get this message, but they would still be able to browse the forum: ![]() vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv The fourth one shows, how a message would popup telling you that you need to move your thread. I mean, come on... it's very fast and easy, a person could do it themselves and help the mods out: ![]() (also forgot to mention it would tell the person what thread to move it to) You can even mix three & four, maybe where the message pops up on the forum, but it doesnt stay up... say its closes in 10 seconds or so. (couldn't find the exact font, but didn't really try) and yes, I did take a lot of time doing this... man adderall is THE SHIT! and I got just enough klonopin in me to keep my anxiety easy. just gotta be easyyyy, too paranoid bout my heart. haha! ![]() ![]() I think by far people posting in the wrong section is one of the biggest hassles on this forum, it HAS to be the most complained about thing here. People telling people it's the wrong section even starts up spam in that thread and causes more trouble, and this could do a great deal to help clean that up. It would take some time coding, but once finished it would be a fully automated system, all the moderator would have to do is spend just a couple seconds sending the report! Now, you could say we could create an automated system that does it instead of the blades, but I think that's bullshit! People should be able to post in the correct section without being babysat and told where to post, but of course... if that was a more popular idea, I would be much more for it than our current situation seeing as it seems it is just constantly progressing in the opposite direction. Again, I appreciate if you read all of this, as I spent a lot of time creating this post, and once again I hope you take it into consideration and move forward with an idea like this.

Another thing haha. I know i'm putting a lot of time into this even though theres a fairly good chance of it getting shut out, but these addys are forcing me to do it!
![]() Iv made em small this time with links so you can view the full view. This post is more focused on how to block people from posting. So we've seen quite a few ways people wouldn't be able to post. Plan #1 The popup on the forum that stops you from doing anything: ![]() Plan #2 The Message that stops you from posting when you actually try to post: ![]() Plan #3 Locking, or blocking off the way to make a post: ![]() ![]() Plan #4 the automatically sent PM that notifies the person they need to move their thread ![]() Now here's where I am adding a bit: If by choice the person: a. Clicks the "here" button and goes to the thread. b. Tries to post (with no block set up) We could do this: Also, what is very important is what I mentioned earlier how some of the messages didn't include how to move their thread. My idea was to have a link to the thread, and when they go to the thread, that specific user, a message pops up, and the same goes for when they try to create a new thread/ When people try to reply or post a new thread, this could pop up: ![]() Or, you could take away that time, and remember the message popup on the front page? Well it's kinda a mix between that and the last one, where theres a link to moving your thread right there, would help speed things up and make it less of a hassle for blades. ![]()

noob killer
![]() Nice ideas, wrong place. wrong site lol. Its a nice idea but i think you'd have to get it added into a future version of vbulletin, i dont think superjoint or rmjl wants to code all that mess.

If this was done correctly, like I stated it could great improve the morality, and "cleanliness" of the city. Consider taking out the trash... except you don't have to do anything, it takes itself out.

Blade posts a thread in the wrong forum. There's a marker where a mod can simply "check it" or however you wish to say it, choosing from a list of the correct forum to move it to (take like 2-5 seconds). Once a mod does this, one of many things can happen (that's why I created so many options, whichever would work best) but ultimately, the person will be forced to move his thread himself to the correct forum before he could even reply to a post, or create a new thread. Sure a mod could move it himself, but we're trying to get away from that, and putting more responsability on the members, following the rules more... firmly, at the same time cleaning up the city making it more enjoyable for the blades. If everyone does their part (which would be forced through this method, seeing as they cannot post until they correct their mistake) it would keep the majority of the meaningless clutter out of the wrong places. I would guarantee with this implimented over a short period of time you would see less and less posts in the wrong forums (as long as mods mark the posts, remember... only takes a couple seconds). It just seems to me that one of the biggest and most common complaints here are people posting in the wrong forum (especially Recreational Marijuana Use), and I don't know about some of you, but i'm sick of sorting through "Help! My mom found my stash! and whatnot, and I KNOW I am not the only one.

Definitely for it, but as I told you on AIM I only see several ways in which this is different from the mod just moving the thread themselves. The most positive one is that it encourages people not to continue to post in the wrong forum, which would be helpful.
