We've had a lot of requests to "cancel" memberships lately so this thread is necessary.

When you register to become a member at grasscity.com, you should choose a user name that isn't associated with one that you use elsewhere if you are concerned about security.

We do not cancel memberships. We can "delete" a user account but the user name remains as do the posts. The deletion only kills your access to the account. You will no longer be a registered user.

User accounts also may get banned for different reasons associated with breaking the rules or continued disrespect. If you are banned, you will no longer have access to the account. The user name remains as do the posts unless deletion of posts is necessary for the forums.

Everyone is responsible for what they post. If you have a reason to be concerned about your security, then you need to take the necessary precautions to make sure you are safe. It is not on us if you post something and then later decide that you are worried that it will come back to haunt you. That's on you.

We want everyone to feel safe but, in the end, this is the internet and when you post your activities, you're basically posting them for the world to see. So, take your security into your own hands and make wise decisions when posting if you have any reason to be concerned.

We don't change user names, either. I've been hit with a lot of those requests, too.

With the new format, something new happens when an account is deleted. The user name doesn't remain and a search for the user name has no results.
