search results only return 500 posts?! wtf!?

is this new crapness like the can't edit posts after a month crapness?

i feel it's ok to complain about this as its not a personal reflection on anyone, and i know how aggressively deffensive some peeps have gotten in the past when complaining about their actions, but this, is just the programmed limitations on the board. they can be sorted easily. the functionality of the forum is at stake here. these are some SERIOUS IMPEDIMENTS that need to be repealed, and replaced with the open limitless functionality i recall was once there.

if i want to look back for a blast of nostalgia to see my first post, or my first tentative post in the spirituality and philosophy section, or the first time i learned sensi is a girl, or a lesbian, or the first time amanita got upity with me, or the first time i got into one of those silly "christianity vs science" debates.... then i wanna fuckin do it! ya know? like why shouldnt I be able to?
as it was when i just checked... i couldnt even look back any further than 2004!
i wanna return to the time before "nine eleven" debates raged across the boards.


is there a way i can search for my first post?

can we reinstate these functions of the code?

I dont agree that this site is getting crap, though I havent been here as long as most of you.
But i've nearly read through all the grow journals on here now, and i too would like to be able to have access to ALL the info available here on GC. I'm not complaining though, I love GC

That's SJ's decision, Digit. I actually mentioned it a while back because I was on a hunt for something and I just thought that I either didn't have my own settings right or something was jacked up. That's just how it is, though. SJ has his reasons and I'd have to go back and find all of the reasons but the bottom line is that is how he wants things. (I almost think I remember something about a server load but Indy's the technical one, not me, and he's sacked out so I can't ask him right now.)

The City's grown a lot since those days Digit. You and I are both well aware of that.

We now limit the actual search buton feature to going back one year. This keeps the load down on the server and ensures the City will be running smoothly for everyone. In the future as we continue to upgrade, I hope we'll be able to expand that feature for everyone to include being able to use the search button to go back further, but no guarantees. Remember that with almost 44,000 users (about 8,500 of those active members, not to mention the massive amounts of guests here daily), there are multiple people searching at once which can create a big strain on the City's database. We've got to make sure that the City is accessible and running good for everyone.

You are aware of the archive I think, located here that contains everything from the City.

And of course, at the bottom of each forum you can set your display to show threads from the begining using the sorted by option:
Or You can also set it in your UserCP so you don't have to always do this for each forum. Just go to UserCP, Edit options, and scroll down to the "thread display options" Change the "default thread age cut off" from "forum default" to "show all threads". This way you won't always have to adjust it for each forum.

But yes, as far as the actual seach button function that is limited to help keep the server load down.
