| Re: unOfficial Dragon Age: Origins post release thread
Well now, the only thing Oblivion and DAO have in common are the fact that they're roleplaying games.
Oblviion was a first person RPG adventure, and it was a great game in it's own right. Personally, I found the vanilla game to be lacking in many areas. Thankfully the large community of modders released many game changing mods that turned it into a playable, enjoyable adventure.
DAO is a lot more like Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights. While I thought NWN wasn't all that great, Baldur's Gate was one of the best RPG's of our time.
That said, it's very apparent that DAO is a modern re-imagining of those types of epic, story driven, party based RPGs. These games were as detailed as Oblivion, just isometric instead of first person. The games are also non-linear, meaning you're free to explore most of the world.
I haven't played through enough of DAO to know, but if what I've read and heard, this game is a spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate series and is probably going to be a classic down the line.
