Why does it seem that all videos are lacking heavily in the ability to increase their gameplay.. Its like they focus on something special about the game and make that the selling point instead of making something all around spectacular. Like in Borderlands, theres "millions of gun combinations" but most of the guns suck and arnt even worth using.. and if you dont have the DLC there is only one vehicle... thats weak. Not to mention its not even that open of a game. Each map has specific trails that your forced to follow.

Why arnt game companies raping the technology they have available? Make wide, open maps, with interactive and destructable environment. Its like the companies behind these games are purposly holding back..

Maybe they are, the new consoles will be out soon, maybe they want to save all their good ideas until they can fully realize them? If they make them haphazardly then other companies will copy and make it better. But I know what you mean, the games need much more depth, not just features

They have been able to fully utilize them on PC for a long time now, we're still not seeing anything groundbreaking at all. I think games should be massive online sandboxes at this point. Game designers can't seem to get it through their thick skulls that most people are sick to death of linear gameplay.

My biggest gripe is with current gen RPG's. They make these huge worlds and then totally neglect the loot. They make like 2 or 3 armor set's per class and that's it. Like are you kidding me? Games like Skyrim where after a while I cant be bothered to open chests because I know it's not going to contain anything spectacular, ever. The stories in most rpgs today are something a 5 year old could have come up with.

Examples would be nice.

I think games are fine right now. No matter what, we'll always moan about something not being as good as it was or should be.

OBV, COD is boring as shit now because it's quite literally the same thing every year with purely surface differences (maps, storyline and guns) whilst gameplay remains the same.

Until I see a game like Spore but more realistic and epic and taking advantage of everything a computer has to offer. Then I wont be satisfied.

I want to start off as a low form of life and evolve threw the ages and explore the planet, fight wars and conquer it. then explore outerspace and try to colonize a distant planet and fight against alien races on a large large scale. There was a star wars game similar to this but it was very lacking. Spore came the closest but it was childish and not used to its fullest abilities.

I've been saying this for a while..it would be awesome if they could combine like gta with borderlands and sims..huge open world where you can make them do pretty much whatever and destroy anything..I'm guessing it comes down to memory as the video cutscenes and audio take up most of the disk..they will need those larger 1tb blue-violet discs Sony's making or a better compression for audio and video

Maybe the problem is that these days devlopers and designers lost their foucus? Maybe its because everyone is trying to focus too much on trophy, social networking, online multiplayer, online passes, DLC, ship now, patch later and pre-order bonuses.

Man, I remember when games didn't need all that gimmicky bullshit just to get me to play them. And I was able to play the same games for a longer period of time too, now a days, the seem to be made so that you get tired of by the end of the year, if your lucky.

It's not so much a developer issue as it is a publisher issue.

Publisher make demands that the developers must follow.

If they all made massive sandbox titles the development process would take twice as long, and the game would be on 2-3 discs or 1-2 Blu ray discs which means everyone would have to buy a blu ray PC cd drive, or a PS3.

Which in turn would make games more expensive, and then less buyers and less profit.

The gaming industry is hurting right now, and that wouldn't help. Its not that we need sandbox titles, we just need DIFFERENT titles. Dishonored looks great, as well as The Last of Us. And MGS5 will be sick..

Well to use cod as an example, they are forced to just shit out a new one every year, when the developers need atleast 3 years. So developers are forced to make games really fast cause companies want money fast from it, that's why they give you nothing good then when dlc comes out if you buy it you get good weapons and stuff.

Idk the capabilities and limitations of a computer and gameing but I got an idea in my head for an epic strategy game and if it took 5 years to make, it would totally be worth it. Maybe then technology would be able to support it.. Not graphicly, just content and memory wise.

I see Borderlands as a pretty stoner-friendly game that it is relatively open with its map. Its not as open as a game like Skyrim of course but the map is open enough where you have to do a little bit of exploring but there are plenty of baddies where the game is interesting enough. Of course I bought the game for $20 and the game seems like a steal for that price.

I thought the videos just added over-top strangness in a game like borderlands.

money i would think

sure going all out is what WE want....

i sorta think that companies like to plan out what feature can we put in to "individualize" this game (IE how can we take a popular feature/idea {thats usually in the most 'successful games'} make this feature a little different, but say its revolutionary)

so revolutionary feature "takes" up the games "value" (as in they think thats all we really want)while everthing else that would make a well rounded game, is heavily trimmed down to reduce development costs at the same time is slapped again with some 'pretty' paint to hide all that fuglyness they call the rest of the game...

tldr:::developers only make enough of a game to add in dat epic features and make it seem its a complete game

super indepth mechanics/content (meaningful) is left out because they think it would go undeserved....kinda like the AI....i mean why should companies spend so much money trying to make something alot of people don't pay attention to

well i hope i said something coherent in this blobby post

ps,
My dream game is a mix between Skyrim, simcity 4......this is how it goes out......picture the skyrim world...the towns, cities, people, stores..the land.......well everything in the world is made and sold.....hundreds of companies that is responsible for skyrim as it IS...now you can go in make money doing whatever you want...start small, end big....soon after enough money open up a store.....then buyout the whole town...when that happens you control that town(think simcity 4 now) you have the ability to zone the land, and EXTEND the cities' limit..now at any time if an AI wants to build on an empty plot that you zoned (either a house(resisdental), a store (commercial), or a factory (industrial)....ie he can't build a house on land that you zoned for commercial use......

then you can start new cities far away only to populate and expand them (skyrim's default world boundaries would be removed and replaced with a world random generator)

(((only game that "KINDA" comes close to this dream game, is X3 Terran Conflict)))) (actually i just got back into it, lol )

now this is the end of the post of the ramble:hello:

I thought Dark Souls was a pretty good RPG. It was definitely a nice refreshing change from the rest of the crap rpg's being peddled out these days.

I couldnt agree more, Ive almost given up on new gen games MY ISSUE IS THEYRE GETTING LAZY. Anyone who played vanilla wow will tell you items were unique. Now items are copy paste stats with different texture or color. Skyrim was the biggest heap of shit I have ever goddamn played. I went and bought morrowind the fucking day it came out and still havent explored the entire map, found the best items or loot.

Hopefully designers will realize uniqueness, quality, and imagination is what will keep gamers playing

Best game of all time - Morrowind

Worst game ever - Skyrim, open chest 3gold, open chest 5gold, open chest 2 gold, kill rat, open chest 5gold, find lameass sword with nothing special, open chest 3 gold.
