LET's GET HEALTHY 2GETHER ~ TODAY is the 1st Day of the Rest of OUR Life

Are you tired of always saying:

* I really need to lose weight
* I need to eat better
* I really should exercise
* It's baby weight (meanwhile your child is past 5 yrs old)
* By next summer, I'm gonna look good
* Maybe by the end of the year I'll lose
* New Years Resolution - Gonna lose weight
* On MONDAY I'll start ?????

Well ..... it's MONDAY !!!!!!!!!!! R U With ME ?????

I've always been thin (before I had kids). Well my oldest is 13 and there are NO MORE EXCUSES !!!!! Can't blame it on the "baby weight" anymore - who am I kidding? I am 37 and 232.6 (WOW !!!!!) 5'7" - I need to lose like almost 100 LBS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have this awesome friend that I walk with in the morning (when we can). We started last Monday and decided to buy a little journal to keep track of all our eating. Each Monday, we are going to weigh ourselves and record it in the journal. We will do our walk, stop at the local deli for an egg sandwhich and go over our weight loss/gain, and analyze what we ate for the week to compare notes and see what we need to change. Since I totally tanked this past Monday, today, Monday - sounds like a good day to get serious about this.

This thread is for anyone who is tired of carrying extra weight and needs some motivation !!!!! Let's motivate one another !!!!! I am SO READY to unzip this "fat suit" that I've had on all these years and start living again......R U READY ???

STATS: Age, 37 - Weight, 232.6 - GOAL 147

Re: LET's GET HEALTHY 2GETHER ~ TODAY is the 1st Day of the Rest of OUR Life

haha i was actually going to start my workout routine again as of tomorrow.

i'm 6'0 and was 150 with a decent amount of muscle and low body fat 6 months ago.

i'm now up to 165 with a lot of extra baggage. my goal is to get back down to 150 and start building some more muscle.

this thread might be a good way to stay motivated. maybe post pictures of our progress we make? just an idea.

Re: LET's GET HEALTHY 2GETHER ~ TODAY is the 1st Day of the Rest of OUR Life

Hi okil .. thanks for posting. No time to start like the present. You can do it !!!!! My walking buddy is unable to walk this morning, so I somehow need to get my butt on the treadmill and start with a decent breakfast. I'm trying to make my goals small - short-term 10 lb goal for now b/c my overal goal seems too far away and out of reach. Maybe set a short-term goal for yourself and work at that !!! You will be back in gear in no time.

Wow Masterchiefer !!! That's great !!! Any special program you are following ... or just eating right and exercising? My dilemma is that I'm allergic to chicken, turkey and fish ... Good luck to you also ... not too far to go !!!!!

Re: LET's GET HEALTHY 2GETHER ~ TODAY is the 1st Day of the Rest of OUR Life

i sort of follow a program.. not really strict

elliptical machine (or bike, either way) for about 10 minutes, gets your heart rate up

do my workouts (arms/shoulders one day, chest/back one day, all running one day)

then run a mile or more if i can (either HIIT or LSD training, high intensity interval training or long slow distance, look them up)

almost as soon as i'm done (i have to walk back to my dorm), i have a protein drink (whey protein, good for muscle recovery after a workout), and then 10-15 minutes after that eat a "balanced" meal (turkey sub, lowfat yogurt, water or diet coke).. dont know what you should do since your allergies, but you definitely need protein, some carbs, vitamins

it's hard to restrain, but i reeeeallly try to not eat junk food when i have the munchies..

that's about it. once you get the motivation to work out, it's not that bad. you just have to teach yourself to get excited to exercise.

Fuck man. I'm working my way to where you are now.....
I'm 6' started at 212
now I'm 203....
thats after about 2 weeks, but the majority of it went within the first week. Now I'm sittin steady at 203. No matter how I much I run or work out it sits steady....
its most likely because I'm a terrible eater.... But I have been trying to cut back....
I think I have a bigger body style than you okil, I can't remember when I was 160. Like 8th grade? and I was into cross country back then so I was fit as a fiddle....

My routine so far has been
run on the treadmill for 25 min on 6 for a warmup.Take a quick lap around the gym and kinda stretch while going along
get back on the tread and run for another 15 min on 6 again but on 6 incline (the thighs must be punished!)
Then I go and lift weights, I've been latly working on the legs just for ski season. Yeasterday I did shoulders back and abs and I can barely move today.... Looking forward to tommorrow though.
I think the biggest thing holding me back is my eating.... I am the pickiest eater as fuck, and I have a hard time trying new things. of coarse with this I didn't pick being a picky eater and not eating unhealthy stuff, its the opposite. so thats been half the struggle for me latlely

As mentioned above i do this every other day all week.

I know I know..... "Nice blog" but you asked for it!
And congrats on starting up the new routines!

your routine looks really good dude. i used to do 30 minutes of cardio a day and then various types of lifting. theres no reason you shouldn't get great results from this as long as you watch what your eating. i forget the exact percentage but im pretty sure i read somewhere weight loss is 70% from diet 30% exercise.

Cool Re: LET's GET HEALTHY 2GETHER ~ TODAY is the 1st Day of the Rest of OUR Life

JefeGrande - sounds like you have a pretty good routine. Like you, I am also a very picky eater - I didn't think there was anyone who can top me as being picky. Are you eating 6 small meals a day? Maybe there is something with your eating that's holding you back a little. If you're doing a lot of strength training, especially in your legs, I wouldn't think that the scale would go down as much because you are building up muscle....I could be wrong. Keep it going though !!!!!

Masterchiefer - I LOVE to exercise ... that's not my problem. It's sticking with it that stinks. I'll be real good for a week or two, then (not sure if you're a lady), but that time of the month comes and it's downhill from there. I need consistency...I think I quit too easily. I'll workout and expect to see those huge weight loss numbers like on The Biggest Loser. I would LOVE to go on that show to have Jillian scream in my face. That's what I need I think.

Well, I walked with my friend on Monday around the neighborhood. We do a 3 mile walk - some hills up and down and some flat. I struggled to get my butt on the treadmill last night b/c walk was canceled b/c of rain. I went on while watching Biggest Loser, so that motivated me a little. Stayed on for 60 min. Then today, went on the mill again for 45 min. I usually like to do a full hour, but my kids were waiting for me to cook. We are converting our garage into a gym, but who knows when that will get done. The equipment is SO expensive. Since I like to eat SO much junk, I'm going to try to do without for a month. I've tried it before but quit. I guess I should live by the quote I always tell my kids: "Quitters never win and winners never quit!" It's about time I change my thinking .....

Yea, I'm pretty fit as it is since I stay pretty active between kayaking/hiking/fishing/biking in the summer and skiing in the winter.... I have noticed that my weight hasn't goine down much but I am definatly getting slimmer. I tried a pair of pants on the other day that used to never fit me, now I can get into them somewhat comfortable. so thats going to be my goal. I gave up on losing a ton of weight just slimming up and getting healthier.

Eating is going to be the hardest part, I love being a meatitarian....

Re: LET's GET HEALTHY 2GETHER ~ TODAY is the 1st Day of the Rest of OUR Life

I am trying to get back into a jogging routine.

I am sick with cold so I think that is a decent excuse as to why I haven't ran in 5 days. It will be hard to stay motivated over this long and cold winter in Ohio, may join a gym. Only problem is high cost of gym and closest is 15-20 minutes away. hmm...

Hey Hockeyman07 ... a gym membership can be expensive. How about trying to invest in a treadmill? It will wind up costing way less than a gym membership. Also, you may be able to find a used one on craigslist.com. Sometimes people give them away for free. That would be a good way to go for a run inside....not sure if that's something you've thought of, but just a thought. Good luck to you

I found that if you have the money for a gym. do it. For me it is my reason to go work out. Everytime I see my CC charged for another month I go "Damn i guess I should go work out now...."

BUt a treadmill is good too. I think at a gym you just get a little variety, sometimes when I'm lazy I like to ride the bikes rather than run on the treadmill.....
Just my .02 but good luck!

Re: LET's GET HEALTHY 2GETHER ~ TODAY is the 1st Day of the Rest of OUR Life

It's Monday !!!!! I am down 2lbs....YIPPEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! Would have loved to have more of a loss, but it's a loss and I'll take it. How is everyone doing? My goal for this week is not to skip meals (b/c I do a lot of that). Have a good day.

~ Every day you make one of two choices .... build health or produce disease in yourself.
