Lots of bad advice here. I would say google "starting strength by mark rippetoe" and go from there. You should be eating around 500 calories a day more than you do currently to add about a pound of weight a week. Protein shakes and creatine and worth looking into.
Lift heavy weights, eat plenty of food and get plenty of rest. Get your squats & deadlifts on.

I've seen some decent advice given. But figured I'd add in my own advice, since I have been body buidling for around 2 years or so. First of all, as someone already stated you sound like an extreme ectomorph (lucky you, I'm more endomorphic myself), since your such a hard-gainer your going to have to start taking in 6,000 calories or so a day, and you should also figure out your macro-nutrients. As in Carbs/Protein/Fats, in each meal your eating. Stick with foods such as things rich in multi-grains, whole wheat (brown) pasta and rich, tuna and chicken are the main lean proteins that I eat, veggies which are fibrous carbs. I had no idea what I was doing with my eating until I purchased Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle online book for like 40 bucks, you can either get the book or not, I could careless, but it gave me a ton of knowledge. I also then joined bodybuilding. com's forums, and found out how to properly balance my meals and make new workout routines. Because what's the point of eating all the extra calories if your not going to lift weights? I gotta dip for right now, but if nothing else drop me a pm if you have any questions you'd like answered. it actually makes perfect sense and is a pretty well known concept


OP eat, eat, eat. nice tasty foods. pepperoni pizza, steak and cheese. just eat and lifting weights helps turn that new wieght into muscle rather than fat which is what im assuming what your going for

Nah it's a pretty well known old wives tale. Your body during sleep burns almost as many calories as when your awake and dormant.

Yeah dude it's an old wives tale. Google it.

How would it make sense that your body would store food as fat just because you are asleep? Your body is digesting food constantly; it doesn't suddenly convert proteins to fats or anything when you're sleeping.

SOme of the advice on here is just crazy. How the hell do you think our ancestors gained so much more muscle then us yet ate only what they could afford to? The real key is to slow down your metabolism so that your body will use all the nutrients you give it to the best of its ability and will not waste a single calorie.

Anyone on here recommending to eat pizza and shit like that does not know the first thing about nutrition and gaining muscle. You've got to look for the truth about how our body works

OP, try using a gainer as others have suggested. Off the top of my head: whey is an excellent source of protein that helps you to gain weight pretty quickly.

eat more food,but not unhealthy,diarrhea inducing food.eat more meat,not kfc,that's diarrhea inducing. make your own food.and stop smoking the herb for like 2 weeks.that's so your metabolism will slow down and your body will store more fat instead of breaking it down.

Because there is already a hell of a lot of information in previous posts ill just summarize to bullet points:


- Eat more frequently, invent meals between existing meals.

- Eat WELL, scrap ALL fast food, you want to be eating fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, nuts, milk etc. Have a balanced diet.

- Lift weights, low reps, heavy weights, go for free weights as they work the most muscles. Do not miss out muscles just because you dont like training them, train every muscle: back, chest, arms, shoulders, abs, legs and everything inbetween.

- Drink water, very important to fabricate proteins and amino acids.

- Sleep well, your muscles repair as you sleep.

I started doing Squats n' Milk a week ago and I've gained a couple pounds already. Do 5 sets of 5 reps of as much weight as you can. Then have a good upper body workout after that. Drink between a half and a full gallon of whole milk a day. Milk has LOTS of carbs, protein, and fat.

Dude. Don't take creatine. That is retarded, unless you are looking to tear your ligaments/tendons. I suggest you find a balanced diet. Eat small meals every 3hrs. When you lift, do lighter weights with more sets. After your workouts, take a good quality protein shake within TWENTY MINUTES!

If you eat fatty foods, you will raise your bodyfat percentage and be FAT.

If you eat lean protein, you will gain muscle.

I'll leave the decision up to you.

Me too. You don't have to buy a rediculously expensive crazy shake powder. Just get a basic, cheap protein mix,just plain w/o flavor, and then mix in half a banana. Per meal it's really cheap.
