Re: How did you quit smoking cigarettes?

I stopped 7 months ago. Cold Turkey, won't be needing another Cig again.

you just need to have a REAL reason to quite, people that try to quite becuase of peer presure have no real motivation, and regually drop back into old habits.

Youve probably done the hardest part allready man, youve been abkle to recognise all the bad things about smoking, instead of continuing to make excuses about those bad pionts..

Quote:
I hate the smell, I hate the taste, I hate the cost
You've found 3 good reasons to quit, which means your only falling back on your bad habit becuase youve got 'good pionts' that keep bringing you back

Quote:
I get cranky and easily irritated.
Once the things you hate about smoking outway the things you like about smoking, you'll be able to stop.

The pionts you make about stress are valid, but theres athough ways you can minimalise them, without having to resort to having to take a 'time out' to have a smoke and calm down (btw its the taking the 'time out' thing that relieves stress, not the cigrette, which actually does the opposite, but thats a diff rant all together)

I'd try revoming your self from situations that make you stressed out, avoid people that irritate your, or better yet, make it clear that what they are doing irritates you, and could they cut that shit out around you, otherwise you may have to spend less time with them

Finally, DO NOT take a "crutch" to "help you quit", things like patchs and gum are not helpfull in anyway, and are counterproductive.
Marketting Patchs and gum as the most 'effective quitting method' is only reinforcing the Lie that quiting is hard, and that normal people need help doing it, its not herion, its not crack, and treating it like it is is what cuases alot of people to give up their goals of quitting, becuase its "too hard".

i quit cold turkey. thats the best way imo. if you really want to quit then you just need to have the willpower to.

Re: How did you quit smoking cigarettes?

cold turkey worked for me. i really can't explain what was different this time. i'd tried to quit more times than i care to remember over the years i'd smoked.
i just stopped, didn't let myself smoke. even kept a pack at the house for a long time after, until one day i just didn't need it around anymore and tossed it. i never want to smoke now, and when i'm around people who are smoking it's almost nauseating having to smell it. it's been maybe 7 months now. granted that's not that long, but i know i'm over them.

Re: How did you quit smoking cigarettes?

I quit when I was 15. I was no where near an addict though. It all depends on your willpower. Some people can do it easily, some people no so easily. BUT EVERYONE CAN DO IT. I would start by removing things that remind you of smoking. You're picture being one of them Then try QUITTING marijuana for a week or 2. Marijuana intensifies cravings of everything. If you dont get cravings high, then no need to quit. I would try slowly reducing how much you smoke. Make a plan and STICK TO IT. Don't stray away from it. Then get on the patch or gum or something and slowly reduce that too.

Re: How did you quit smoking cigarettes?

Basically I put myself in to such deep paranoia about getting deathly sick (cancer) that I hypnotized myself in to believing it. I've been quit for 7 months now and even if I think about smoking cigarettes, cancer thoughts start

Works pretty good, I'm not totally insane yet.

Re: How did you quit smoking cigarettes?

I quit 2 weeks ago, I never used to buy cigarettes - but all my friends smoke and at college its, shamefully, 'cool'. So i could get my hands on one at any point, I have recently become more dedicated to boxing (been doing it for 8 months), on one of our warm-up jogs I said to my mate next to me out of the blue - "If i smoke another cigarette 'till christmas i'll give you a tenner."

He said the same thing but smoked one three days later, he still smokes now, i don't and hope i never smoke a cigarette again in my life - i'm loving it

I advise everyone to do the same as me, i do crave a fag when i am drunk and everyone around me is smoking... if you wanna prove you have will power, quit.

Re: How did you quit smoking cigarettes?

Should I quit or not? I have asked a friend about the negative effects of smoking and he cited health reasons as number one. He said that I will suffer the results of smoking when I will be around 40 years old. Then he cited bad breath after smoking and its stains on the teeth.
But I am still undecided.
Aside from the habit and addiction, I want to continue it; first of all, because smoking is my only outlet to release tension while at work. Second, it makes me look liberated and sound bold and confident. Smoking gives me more aura and self-confidence since everyone looks at me in a more mature manner. Hence, my question remains, should I quit or not?

Re: How did you quit smoking cigarettes?

Dude, heres the best way to quit! Buy a pack of cigs, empty the tobacco out of all the cigs and replace it with weed! Remember to pull the filters out with tweezers and make roaches out of cardboard/paper. Now you have a pack of 20 joints! Every time you crave a cig go smoke a joint that looks, feels, and smokes like a cig. After 3 amazing days of smoking nothing elese but joints you have successfully quit smoking!...And you got to smoke tons of weed while doing it! XD If you cant afford that much weed you can get a metal cigarette that works like a pipe...or use a pipe lol. A half ounce of pot should be enough for 20 joints and then some, just get schwag or something if you cant afford it...then again you cant put a price on life haha. P.S Im a smoker, and being the stoner that I am I did that exact same thing without any intention of quitting...next thing I know I diddnt crave cigs! I do smoke now but thats b/c I WANT to and I enjoy it as it increases my high Peace man -toke

Re: How did you quit smoking cigarettes?

I've tried quitting smoking for health reasons but I actually enjoy the act of smoking. I just dislike the physiological effects it has on my health.
