reasons why movies look fake

when u watch movies on blue-ray, it looks fake. The reason why it looks fake cause they use one camera to record a scene or not using a newer technology camera... That why mostly blue-ray looks bad, but now hollywood are just starting using either 2 techniques

1. 3 cameras, one is blue, red and regaler, (i think, i need find the source, cant find it)
or
2. using hd camera, and it can focus on everything on the screen if u wanted too.. and it creates a feeling of depth of field...

Analog film lets moviemakers control the depth of field.

2K and HD cameras force everything into focus.

Great article, man. I really enjoyed it. Blu-Ray and HD all the way for me. If you've seen a minute of a nature show or well-shot movie on HD, well, forget it - you're converted. Assuming you have money to convert with

Re: reasons why movies look fake

I can see what you are saying, but that second picture is more unrealistic than the first one. I say that because no one ever has that many different focal points in focus at the same time.

my personal prediction
will be an occurrence of more 3-D movies
its not that much harder to create a 3-D movie
so i think many studios will start doing it more often

which is a personal win for me
because 3-D movies are like an eye'gasm high [eye orgasm]

Re: reasons why movies look fake

I haven't seen a good 3-D movie since I was at the Imax years ago.

Are there any real good ones that you can watch at home? Do those cardboard glasses work alright with them? Cause I remember at the Imax we got real glasses.

YouTube - Johnny Lee: Wii Remote hacks

VERY VERY interesting
i didnt like the white board idea too much
since a teacher probably wouldnt understand how to make the led pen

but
the glasses idea is amazing
that could really be put to great use in video games
and possible even movies

yes they work!
you can buy the glasses only for like 1 dollar
and there is countless videos and pictures only that you can use them with

Re: reasons why movies look fake

Only seen one movie on blueray so far and that was the dark knight so im guessin it was the good cameras

Didnt look fake at all lol

To those sayin its less real cause you dont actually have that many focal points...well...more are better lol

The blueray looks badass. I think its more real...but even if not its still WAY better lookin.

You can see the heat waves that lights give off....the detail in the stitching on a baseball in the pitches hand...reflection off sweat...

Gettin high and watchin movies with crazy effects is tight. I hate harry potter but I kept flippin back and watchin the flashy scenes lol

Re: reasons why movies look fake

Control over depth of field is always a plus... from what I understand, the Red one is the first HD camera to have it? As well as the first digital camera to matches the quality of film?

Of course, deep focus has existed since at least the 1930's. It can be used as a storytelling technique that's just as valuable as limiting or changing the depth of field. Citizen Kane is the most famous example. Depicting reality as closely as possible is not always the goal of cinematography.

I can't wait to see movies shot with this new camera!

Re: reasons why movies look fake

No, they do not look fake. They use exactly the same media as movies 10 years ago. The pictures you show are comparing current digital cameras to film cameras, and the article talks about how the RED will revolutionize digital filming.

99% of all hollywood movies today are still shot with film. The film is then converted to a digital format via telesync, and then put on your blu-ray and DVD's. The filming process is exactly the same as it has been for the last few decades, and basically no hollywood picture is shot digitally (as of now).

Re: reasons why movies look fake

If I could find the link, I read that hollywood is switching to digital. It holds more storage and takes better video then then ones hollywood is used to.

This.

It's not Blu-Ray - it's the camera that is changing actual footage. You can watch Blu-Rays shot on film or video.

Re: reasons why movies look fake

you can easily create depth of friend with an hd camera, it just requires the proper lens.

The reason blu ray looks funny is not because it is blu ray but because of the tv. 120hz 1080p tvs remove motion blur. it removes so much motion blur that you loose the motion blur effect 24p creates and it looks like live video instead of a movie. i hope this solved the confusion!
