I used to always dip in clone gel, then someone told me the powder was better. So I took 15 cuttings, dipped 5 in gel, 5 in powder, and 5 with nothing. They all rooted at the same speed. That is when I stopped using all the other stuff and started doing it in plain water. I have made thousands of clones using nothing but water. The only problem I have had was when I did not check the water level and the pump went dry. A few hot summers (like the last one) I had some issues with rooting in the heat. It took 25 days and yellow leaves before I say roots. But it still rooted. I just made some clones and it was filled with roots in 7 days. I clone for a few other growers and myself, if I thought you would be better off using the powder I would tell you to do it, but it has not made much a difference in my machine.

Who knows, I might have magic water (and gave some to 77401)

thanks man.

I am just guessing though, I have no idea what would be best in this case.

yeah i agree with you. i did put some fox farms big bloom in there (they recommend it on the first 2 weeks of veg) so that helps, and what i will do is towards the end of the 2nd week i will add some tiger bloom in, which is has a high P, instead of adding more grow nutes as i usually do as the 2 weeks go on. ( i do every 14 days )

which pump are you using to stir and fill your buckets? do you have it plumbed so you are always stirring and then you disconnect one of the stir lines to fill or drain? i am having trouble plumbing even my single buckets to make it easier to fill/drain/stir and test, what i am doing now is very cumbersome and i feel like i need to get some advice from the master

(sorry i asked this before in another thead but i dont think you saw it)

Wrong thread, but I will answer anyway.
Buy a "Via Aqua 1300" pump. They run about $20 and come with a ton of attachments. I just leave it loose and hook it up when I need it, or attach it to the drain (on the outside) of your bucket. I don't leave it on, just turn it on for a minute while I am checking PH.

Show & tell!

So I love my RFCloner. I don't have any reason to be cloning right now as any clones are out of sync with my current & next grow cycles but, I can now clone! So Here goes, my clones, all perky from the beginning!

And here is a picture of my Dinafem clone. It is now 4:00 and I had no roots at all this morning. This was cut & placed 7 days ago in the RFCloner.
So if you look close you can see what looks like an air embolism on the bottom of the stalk and no roots came out of the bottom. From what I could tell is, it almost looked like the water sprayer had removed the outer skin from the stalk and roots grew everywhere that was under the neoprene. Just for full disclosure, I do put my cuttins in clone gel, but I know a minute after turning this on, the root gel is in the water. I also have 5ml each of Advanced Nutes Micro/Grow/Bloom in the solution. But like RF says, You won't need any of that.

I could really see up-scaling this cloner and putting out 100's of clones a week.

Thanks again Rumple I just had to show & tell & share.
Oh & by the way, in 2 weeks I'll post pics on the BB thread of my first harvest, all thanks to Rumple!

Very nice to hear it works. You are motivating people to get a bucket and a drill.

Re: Lets Build a Clone Machine *Step by Step*

Rumple another GREAT one. I just finish making mine I went to habor freight and bought to pumps that gives 6' lift and 2 pumps that has 145 gph 3' lift. The bigger pump went into the clone bucket and the little one I am using for my drip pump. For all of them I paid $70.00!! I bought the 2 extas just in case they die on me which some stuff from habor is crap.

Yeah, watch that harbor freight stuff. I bought a hole saw kit from Harbor Freight, I started drilling a 4" hole in plywood, it started smoking. I checked the saw and all the teeth came off

i noticed above the pic of the clone at ten days you said that was enough growth if going into soil. if you're doing a hydro grow do you need more or less growth and how much +/-?

superb how 2 btw

Re: Lets Build a Clone Machine *Step by Step*

They have TruGarden cloners on EBAY for less than 38 dollars priority shipped. JUST wanted to share the info for those who are considering buying a cloner for cheap without GURU RF DYI guide. But these could be modded for a better setup but check em out.

This doesn't look like an aeroponic cloner. Looks like a bubble cloner with that air stone there.

Its a slightly overpriced POS bubbler. It may work, 60% rooting, but the RFCLoner is 100%
So then I ask, Whats your time worth? Is saving $30 important?

I like a nice three inch or more root cluster before putting it into hydroton. I found if I place it in with short roots, I need to water it from above for a day or two. Long roots will make going to hydro a bit faster. Now long roots are not great for soil transplanting (so I am told), so its best to get them in the dirt at one inch. I have to say I have placed them in soil with 6" roots without issue (just a pian in the ass).

Going into rockwool might be tricky with long roots, you will have to let me know what is best for rockwool (I am clueless).

I have no problem with folks showing good deals on clone machines here. Some of them can inspire improvements on the one I am making here. Although that wone that was just shown is a bubble cloner. I have had mixed results with that style.

Re: Lets Build a Clone Machine *Step by Step*

So this a.m. I check on the clones, everything a week old has rooted, So I leave for work.
Now I come home to see everything wilted. I screamed so loud, I knew what was wrong immediately.....

I f'n left it un plugged for 6 hours

I have a good feeling that everything will be fine in another 6 hours, maybe less?

LMAO because I did the same thing the other day but for 24 hrs
What happened is the guy at the hydro store convinced me that I didn't need the net cups, because I could just pinch the neoprenes into place.
While checking for roots, one slipped into the bucket. So I unplugged the pump to fish it out and forgot to plug it back in...until 24 hrs later. Needless to say I went and bought the net cups as you can see in the pics. They were pretty wilted after that incident but here 2 days later some have rebounded. Some are dead for sure though. Still no roots 21+ days but I'm sure that incident either ruined the chances or slowed it down significantly. I just think these cuttings were not big enough. Time enough for some pics I reckon... I put my bucket by my seedling area so that they get 24 hr CFL (6500k daylight) INDIRECT light. There is also a soft white bulb in there for the whole spectrum idea. I'm assuming this should be enough please correct me if this is wrong...I tried to show a couple of the cuttings that have bounced back from above so you could see how healthy they are, and also the stem shot to show how SHORT it is...they have been in the bucket for about 24 days now I'm losing track now, Fri will be 4 weeks. The last two pics are of a larger cutting I took like 2 weeks later to try and deduce if the size of the cutting was the problem. Never cloned the mother before so my mistake there not knowing how long to expect...She was mature enough though about 7 weeks old, just had short internode spacing so the cuttings were short. Still love the bucket Rump I hope this doesnt get misconstrued as whining, just trying to share. I can't wait to clone something more practical in it. For 20 plus day rootings I would rather start from seed though
