Oh god here goes the tin foil argument again

Ya i am not trying to spark up another tin foil argument more looking for someone who has some substantial knowledge on the subject from any kinda of legitimate source.

I'm not going to pretend to have any inherent chemical knowledge about this, but here's my take:

From http://en.wikipedia....i/Aluminum_foil:

Aluminium foil is aluminium prepared in thin metal leafs, with a thickness less than 0.2 mm / 0.008 in, although much thinner gauges down to 0.006 mm are commonly used.[1] As a result of this, the foil is extremely pliable, and can be bent or wrapped around objects with ease. However, thin foils are fragile and easily damaged, and are often laminated to other materials such as plastics or paper to make them more useful. It replaced tin foil in the mid 20th century.

Then from the aluminum foil MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet):

SAF-T-DATA™ Ratings (Provided here for your convenience)

It also states that "Toxic metal fumes may form when heated to decomposition.", but considering that the boiling point of Al is 4221*F, and a normal butane lighter only gets up to (according to my research) 1800ish max, I wouldn't surmise any fumes would be given off.

So....fairly safe. But still, obviously glass is better.

if tin/aluminum foil was so bad to smoke with, would the manufactures recommend cooking with foil on grills and in ovens?

Also true, industrial ovens and grills get much hotter than bic lighters. The fumes would mostly come from tape and other plastics that are touching the foil.
