So I'm about to start growing with a dwc system in a 5 gallon bucket. I have a lid that fits over the bucket and I was wondering how I should mix my hydroton and coco coir. I would also like to know how I should keep the water level so it stays moist . Any advice would be much appreciated as I have two mothers germinating.

heres my advice, shit-can the dwc idea and go coco, we dont worry about prolonged power outages, pump failures, res temps out of whack, root rot, and all the other crap that can go horribly wrong when running hydro, best part is that we are still on par with the growth rates of any hydro set-up out there ... just sayin

So how do you go about watering the coco? Would you still need to supply the nutrients or does the coco have some naturally?

you must supply food at all stages, and you can water by hand, or with a drip system. coco is kinda like dirt, only a hell of a lot faster

Oh I see. I've already bought all I need for the dwc system. I think I'm going to do everything by hand until the roots start to hang. Then I'll still keep watering it by hand, but keep the bubbling water on the roots hanging. This seems like a pretty good mix of both while preventing root rot.

if your runnin bubbleponics, you dont need any coco at all ... none, just net pots and hydroton (be sure and read up on rinsing it before using though).

You think my 5 gallon lid pot will work? If so how many plants do you think I could fit comfortably in it?
Thanks you're being a big help.

my friend, coco "IS" hydro! i agree, forget the hydroton. i use about a 15-20% addition of perlite. in coco it isn't really necessary, but i use it anyways. imo, the best part of using coco, is the fact that you "always" have fresh nutes if you run to waste. i feed every day, and allow for a good 15% run-off every feed. this eliminates the need to ever flush. the run-off acts as a flush in itself. washes out the nutes that have been left over by the plants drinking/feeding, and replaces them with fresh full strength nutes every day/feed. no other grow technique can make this claim!!!

one plant, one container. i grow in 5 gallon buckets, and get great yields with 1000 watts.
