Who needs nukes when you got...

Rice.
Who needs nukes when you got rice?

You can't EAT nukes, but you can eat rice.

Thailand has so much rice, even when they grow them with rudimentary technique, they can make enough rice to feed the whole nation, and sell the left over to the rest of the world.

Imagine how much rice they can grow, if they applied high tech modern rice farming technology?

I was having my simple lunch at 'Krua Chao Suan' (Kitchen People Garden/Orchard) and I thought the view was fantastic.

I mean, you gotta appreciate the background view and the scene you get to see as you eat your simple lunch...

And the orchids they hung as the decoration...

My lunch was 'Kao Pad Nam Prik Pla Too' (Ricd Fried, Chilli Paste, Too Fish) and a dish of 'Kor Moo Yang' (Neck Pig Roasted). I felt I needed to eat some red meat, so I ordered a Kor Moo Yang dish, despite knowing very well that I won't be able to finish it.

But that's just the way things are here. There's enough food. I don't feel it's a big deal if I order a dishful of roasted pig, and just eat a few pieces of them. I know the left overs won't go to complete waste because there are dogs everywhere.

The kitchen that I'm talking about in this blog, it's a very 'local' restaurant. The food is very ... spicy, and unique. I don't think you'll find this kind of fried rice anywhere in the world.

The dish depends on what they have in their kitchen at the moment. If they have a lot of 'Pak Boong' (Morning Glory), then you'll see a lot of Pak Boong in your fried rice. And if they have a lot of 'Tua Fak Yao' (Long Fak Nuts), then you'll get a lot of them as well.

I think half of the things she uses to make food comes from her back yard... And maybe, I say may be coz I didn't ask her, may be even the rice comes from her field too.

I just had dinner at DAIDOMON the other day... not that I'm a big fan of that place, but it was the only place without a long que in front of the shop...
Anyway, the rice they gave me in that shop was just pathetic! Broken rice!!

Who eats broken rice??? I mean, this is not NIGERIA, where all they have is broken rice because it's the cheapest... We're living in THAILAND, where rice grows everywhere, and DAIDOMON is selling me BROKEN RICE? Oh come on... No wonder they're about to 'jjeng' (Go bankrupt, close) any day...

And it got me to think,

If the farmers get sick and tired of BKK people's bullshit, and one day decides to stop growing rice except what they need for themselves, and the same thing goes for cucumbers, cabbages, eggs, carrots, apples, and all the other things we should be eating instead of all the junk foods we eat at the mall, then we'd be screwed!

We'd be stuck with hambergers and fried chicken for the rest of our lives!!!!!

Anyway...

I really appreciate the sight of the green rice field... and the tasty and nutritious rice that comes from it.
