| Re: Always save your work. [A VECTOR ART CHRONICLE] ![]() Shading the shirt is frustrating me.. I've re-done it a few times and haven't gotten it right yet. Mostly because in the reference photo he is standing and in the art I'm making, he is going to be lying on his back on grass. I changed his shoulder angle, too. Working on it though. Added more shading to the face. Considering how much detail to add to the hair and eyebrows. Also considering if I want any hint of facial hair.. haha. I like the ear a lot. Shading on hands isn't perfect but I'm satfisfied with it for right now. Need to fill in all the white space.

| Re: Always save your work. [A VECTOR ART CHRONICLE] ![]() I don't know if I like the shade of the background yet. Don't like the shading of the shirt that much either, nor the arm. ): Going to work on adding blades of grass and other things growing from the ground next probably. Still going to steadily add detail+shading where I see fit. Caterpillar + green smoke rings will be one of the last additions.

I'd work on the color balance of the flesh a bit. Instead of using tints and shades of the midtone flesh color you sampled from the photograph, remember that shadows of skin tends to be blue/purplish because of the blood underneath and that highlights shift toward yellow (at least when outside) because its reflecting the sun. If those highlights seem blue in the photograph, thats because it wasn't taken correctly, white-balance wasn't taken into consideration. Making these changes to the fleshtone will make him seem much more life-like. but otherwise, good work so far -oh and now that you have him lying on the ground, the direction of the light doesn't make much sense. You might want to think about that a bit more. Last edited by Palmer Eldritch; 06-06-2009 at 04:11 AM. |

| Re: Always save your work. [A VECTOR ART CHRONICLE] Palmer Eldritch: GREAT response, thanks! This is only my third time creating this type of art, and only the second this large. Yeah, I didn't initially plan for him to be lying on the grass. You're right about the light-source. I can just pretend there is a large tree on the left of the screen and the sun is going down in the right. Haha. I should have named my layers, it makes changing the colour of things really difficult. Thank you again for all of the suggestions, I definitely will keep them in mind, even more so for my next project.

| Re: Always save your work. [A VECTOR ART CHRONICLE] Thanks! I think I'm going to leave it. ![]() Also going to adjust colouring because he does have a blue/purple-hued shadow to him, which doesn't fit the brightness of the grass that looks as if it is in bright daylight. Actually, just now I've changed my mind. I think I want the contrast to be apparent. As if it is his eyes that enable him to see his surroundings this way. I'm crazy.

| Re: Always save your work. [A VECTOR ART CHRONICLE] Mushroom references: ![]() ![]() ![]() All from Shroomery - Magic Mushrooms: Which mushrooms grow wild in my area? I have to completely warp the perspectives, though. Hope I can do it. Before I continue the background though, I'm hiding those layers so I can improve the hand, arm, and shirt.
