hey I thought I'd share some of the steps in my brass wall hanging project. So the design is star shaped for the most part. Theres a 3" half sphere in the center with four 4" rays that radiate out from the inner sphere. Then theres a 6" ring that connects the four rays. Lastly theres four small half spheres on the inner sphere placed between the four rays. Heres my plan I made in 3ds max to help you visualize it.

A big part of the project is the engraving on the star's rays. I just finished up a single ray and I'm going into the studio today to solder it together. depending on how well the solder stays out of the engraving, I'll either put the rest together then or come back home and start engraving the other three.

I'll update this thread as I complete parts over the next two weeks. Here is what I want to show this time: the engraved ray. Its still unfinished but you can get the general idea, just think of it as highly polished.

alright, next update.
not too much new, but I have older shots because I'm documenting the creation process

here's the first stage after shaping the individual pieces with a jeweler's saw, naming each section and then filing down the interior solder surface.

then comes the next stage, which is actually the image in the in first post. This is the rough engraving right after taking it off the microscope. many scrapes and mistakes still visible

so then after that, I joined the two pieces with hard solder and polished (but not burnished) the star ray. You can see where I fucked up the tip by letting it get grabbed by the polishing wheel. I had to bend the tip back with pliers. grrrr

the next step will be finishing the rest of the rays and then attaching them to the center hemi-sphere. Hopefully I'll have those shots up by Thursday or Friday.

fuck!

i broke the tip of my engraving burin so theres no possible way to finish this project on time.. goddammit. I'm out of herb right now and i want to fuckin murder someone. come on, someone knock on my door....
