So many ideas, so little talent :(

I never had ANY interest in "art" growing up, so please keep in mind I can barely draw a box without messing up, let alone something detailed.

I've had some pretty awesome ideas the last few months and it's very disappointing to forget some of them all because I don't have the ability to put them on paper.

Any suggestions for helping develop my artistic ability?

Get a sketch book and just go nuts
you dont have to worry about how bad they are, you dont even have to let anyone see them, its just your sketch book. keep drawing in it and practicing, i have at least one sketchbook filled every semester but im an art student

Draw, draw, draw... carry a sketchbook around and fill it up with whatever you want. The only way to be a better artist is to have as much experience as possible and to build your visual vocabulary up. Copy from the masters and artists you like in order to understand what they do that makes their art so appealing. Try a variety of materials/mediums to loosen up since you've never drawn much before.

practice, practice, practice.

I am really left brained (logical, not creative), but have some great ideas I'd love to put on paper, but it's always sooo difficult.

a few semeseters ago I took a digital art class to make art with photoshop. I'd played with photoshop a bit before, so that's what interested me, because I really hadn't had any art classes before. I really liked it and became interested in Graphic Design, which is what I'm currently exploring.

I took a drawing class at school to develop some skills at the craft, and to help exercise my right brain, get myself out of the logical, forced, left brainedness.

Now this is the kind of stuff I draw:

practice, practice, practice. Like said before, try carrying around a sketchbook, and whenever you're bored or just have time, draw what you see. draw what you think, draw what you feel. it's really hard if you're left brained like me; i have tried, but can't bring myself to actually take advantage of having the sketchpad with me.

but I'm getting better (as you can see above)

^Digging the drawing, man. Very O'Keefe-ish. That's not a word, but you know what I'm getting at.

I've got no advice as far as visual art goes. I'm a musician, though, and I can attest to the fact that practice is the best way to get better. No need to worry about the quality of your work; just keep it up. You'll definitely improve as time goes by.

MY dad is an artist, and I've definitely inherited his eyes, I see how things should look, and how to compose and structure subjects artistically but never had the hands for, then I picked up a camera, nuff said.
