Here is what I have learned from seeing others open up a head shop/dispensary.

- First month rent and deposit - 10,000.00
- Insurance - 500.00+ per month
- Employees - 2000.00 per month (this is for one or two working part time)
- Bills (electric, water, etc.) - 500.00+ per month
- Merchandise - 5000.00 +- (depends on if you want to sell crap or goods)

Total you're probably looking at about 20,000-30,000.00. To start.

Im wondering is this even a profitable business?
Can you sell enouph bongs to to pay for all these expenses and live comfortably? (or would u have to sleep in the back of the shop to avoid paying rent somewhere else as well lol)

Im wondering because i just applied for business management and if a headshop could make me a good living id totally be happy to open one.

It depends on your location too.

Would you be competing with a lot of high quality shops? or would yours be the only joint in town? If there's a large enough demand + you're willing to put in the capital and work, it could be profitable

$10,000 a month for rent? You can purchase a whole commercial zoned building for only $700 thats not in bad shape. Head shops around here are usually in the country or in a little town in the middle of no where.

what I've noticed about the headshop around here is that the underground (maybe underground isn't the word I'm looking for) clothing lines that they carry (such as LRG, Scifen, Artful Dodger, Arisue etc) attract a large amount of customers, since the target markets for the clothing and paraphenalia are almost the same (people who believe in the concepts of LRG or Scifen are genereally open-minded people, who in turn smoke bud). The one I'm talkin' about in particular is called The Altered Native

So I guess my point is thatcarrying clothing lines specific to the most demanded in your area could also be a good opportunity for business.

no, im going by LA rent. 5,000.00 for first month and then 5,000.00 for the deposit. 10,000.00

cool wow i thought i lost this thread cuase i couldnt find it but yea that seems kinda reasonable i had a friend who opened up her own headshop kinda it had a lot of shit plus bongs and what not but the only way i met her was from working with her cuase she had to work a second job to keep her shit running unfortanatly i never got to talk to her about how she did it and all that

I think it would be hard to find suppliers for your store. Is there a HEAD SHOP WHOLESALERS dierctory?? I have never seen one nor know where to start. And even if you did your start-up inventory would cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

you get your merchandise the same way you get your merchandise for any other retail store...you buy it from distributors. It is also great to support the local blowers and carry a good selection of american glass in addition to the imported crap if you are going to carry it. Educated your customers and they will spend the extra money for a better product and everyone makes more money.

In washington state... cannabis is "low priority" but still criminal, so we are prohibitionists or whatever you want to call those of us who try to keep cannabis a part of American culture. omg! i'm ramble-preaching!

Anyways a headshop i like to go to is on a particularly tweeekish highway. They tell you to take your hood off as soon as you enter, because of the cameras. Also i'm sure they must have bouncers or something in the back. This headshop is one half headshop and the other half basically dirty sex toys and movies, i don't go into that dirty side because it's too embarassing, like the lovers package where there's like 3 girls leaning over the counter watching what you buy. "uhhh sorry i just want a birthday card"

If it were me i would have armed guards for sure. If i lived near you i would guard your shop with a shotgun for relatively low pay, but it would have to be better than what i make as a machinist.
