Art job?

So my boyfriend and I were talking..I'm a pretty decent artist. Do you think that people would actually pay for like, commissioned art? We were mainly talking about sexual stuff. Like people can ask for certain fetishes or something on paper. What do you think? Of course it'd just be for a little extra pocket cash---- do you see a future in it?

do you sketch? paint?

There is definitely a future in any art career. The work is all on you to make it happen.

The sky is the limit!!

yup, it's tough. You gotta put yourself out there and market yourself pretty agressively. My first commisioned piece was a charcoal sketch for a lutheran church, haha. I've also been to coffee shops around here and talked with owners/managers just so they know who I am and can drop my name. Make sure your portfolio is in order and is professional (I know you probably know this already, not trying to patronize ya )

I would never do it full time just because the work is hit and miss, but it's nice every once in awhile to get that call

art is subjective, find the audience that receives you best and market what you got.

ive had offers for paintings and shit just from people that come over and see it in my room. . . its that easy.

just get yourself out there

Yeah, I was thinking about Craigslist but usually people have to know you to want to buy you- yknow? Like, name brand or whatever.
I was also thinking about advertising at the headshop/sex shop down the road. Cuz they have like, pictures up. But I talked to the dude at the counter and he's like "yeaaaaaah, we've had that picture on the wall for a few years now." So Idk if that means people walk in, see it, and don't think it's for sale or if it really is a tough field to get acknowledged in, yknow?>

go to small businesses or restaurants and ask them if they would let you hang some work, if they like it they might. and just put a little card under it with your name and contact information.

coffeeshops, health stores, headshops, little bistros w/e you get the idea

all those places that people have mentioned are good places to start. It sucks being a freelance artist before you find your audience. You just got to keep whoring yourself out as much as you can until you find a group of people that will appreciate your work to a level that nearly compensates your time and vision.

As much as I was resistant to DeviantArt right up to the point where I made an account, there are people willing to buy prints of your work fairly regularly. And even though you get shafted on what you make on the print, the more people who know your work the better.

The best way I think to go about it is to get yourself a job with a graphics company. You'd be a faceless grunt at first, but using that company's established contacts you can start peddling your own stuff. Don't steal clients, but offer different things than the company can.

Thanks guys. I doubt I'll ever become freelance to make a living, but I like knowing all options are at least partially open, yknow.
